I'm a licensed master falconer here in the USA and am legally allowed to have birds of prey; birds of prey are not pets-- they are kept for hunting purposes and are very much wild animals. To obtain a falconry license, one must pass an examination, acquire/build and pass an inspection of facilities and equipment, obtain a sponsor and participate in a two+ year apprenticeship, have acquired proper hunting locations, an avian vet, etc. If you're interested in falconry, I urge you to contact your state (or country's) wildlife or natural resources-related department for more information.
