Hey man! Glad I could inspire you! Sculpting is really fun, I think you will do well. This guy took me about 3 days! Maybe a little less. As far as tips, just take your time and have fun with it. Don't rush detail, concentrate on your basic forms before you get into the detail. Have a strong armature and the right tools (but don't forget your best tools; your hands). Super Sculpey is a great medium to work in. If you ever want to talk shop or get some more tips on sculpting, send me an email jacobcorricksculpture@gmail.com. I'm always down to share what I know.

Thanks dude! Now to come up with a project!

one last quick question - I see a bunch of people use brushes to smooth out detail in sculpting process videos. What is the brush coated with, and is this technique necessary to getting a smooth finish?

Yes! The fun part.
I use brushes a lot in my sculpting process. They are the only tool I use that I don't actually make myself. You can dip the brush (or your fingers) in a generous amount of strong rubbing alcohol (90-99%) and go over the surface of the sculpture. It will smooth the surface and if you saturate it enough, it can act as a blending agent (like water to pottery clay).

Thank you so much! Yes it is! Regular pink Super Sculpey mixed with some translucent Sculpey 3 blocks.

How long did this take you? I just went to the local art store and bot some Super Sculpey for myself. I've never sculpted before, but you inspired me to try! Any tips you can impart on a newbie?
