Description
The TSC used the rare M72, specifically the A series, of gauss rifles during it's initial conflicts as a heavy rifle or anti-power armor firearm. Due to it's rarity and the fact that only replacement parts and ammunition tooling was found in the Enclave bunkers in the Capital Wasteland and the Eastern Seaboard, the TSC needed it's own 'M72' type weapon quickly. While taking seven years of taking M72s and YCS/172s apart and working with the technology, the GAR-01 was born from within the modified shape of the M16A4.Using the 2mmEC ammunition and a plentiful magazine of twenty eight rounds, the GAR-01 was found to be a reliable comrade in anti-power armor and high tier mutant engagements. The interesting fact is that the coils are covered with a non-magnetic housing to reduce possible combat damage to the coils, thus turning a powerful weapon into a less effective or even unusable weapon.
The M16A4's stock was essentially stripped of it's original components and transformed into a series of recoil dampeners based upon the M72's recoil dampeners. While only semi-automatic, it can be fired as fast as the trigger can be pulled or squeezed. With a rate of fire comparable to the M16A4's semi-automatic rate, this weapon would be used against various power armor wielding factions in the post-War world including the mysterious Mexican Cartels.
The various 'builds' of the weapon, thanks to the rails that were added onto the design, include the top 'standard' with angled foregrip; the DMR build with the Enclave Spectre 1-3.5x electronic scope; and a 'grenadier' version with a modified M203 grenade launcher capable of lobbing not just fragmentary or incendiary grenades at a fair distance, but also pulse, cryo, and plasma grenades.
