My first impulse was to just write… “Don’t ask”, but then I know some of you are too curious to leave it at that and someone would ask anyway. So here is the explanation for this pic to save me the trouble of explaining later

I blame this one on [link]
We were chatting and the subject turned to traditional depiction versus artist’s interpretation of common fantasy creatures. I mentioned that the reason I love to draw fantasy is that you can draw something however you want to and it works because fantasy is open to artist interpretation. After all, it is not like you can go out and take reference photos of a real unicorn for instance.
Then I said, “You could even put a horn on a turtle and call it a unicorn if you really want to…” Then, of course, I just had to draw one

This is a riot! I love your explanation, and it's a nice drawing. Next time I go take a look at my desert unicorn, I'll think of you.

Well this looks great.
I really love how you used those colors. They look so smooth. I hope I can use colored pencils like that some day. There is a lot of green. It's a good thing that you added some blue to that creature. That insect looks very nice, I like it how it's purple. Makes a nice contrast to all that green.
