Description "Neddy". Ha! That's wrong on too many levels and I know it....

For all of you folks out there who don't know, this is Mr. Ned McDodd from Blue Sky Studios' film, Horton Hears a Who! He is more formally referred to as "Mr. Mayor" but, as a Ned fan, I don't give a care what his name is as long as he is an appealing character, which he most certainly is. However, for the record -- and I'm sure all of you Ned fanatics are going to despise me for this -- I absolutely hate his name. Ned... McDodd. Nedry. Denis, the antagonist who got eaten by a Dilophosaurus in Jurassic Park, adorned the same cognomen (although it was his last name in that case). Point in question, I have never liked the name "Ned", and McDodd just seems a little too... odd. (Le pun was intended, above all means.) Although, I have to admit that it does fit him to some degree.

That aside, the drawings above depict what Ned looks like when I draw him. Oui, they are rather unusual. Ah well. At least I now have some scribbles of the Mayor in my new sketchbook.

Oh, and my apologies for the poor quality of the above image, by the way. (I did leave the construction lines in intentionally though, since construction lines are cool, in my humble opinion.)

Vry nicely done here! You really captured his overall personality in this sketch.

As for the name thing... I personally think tey just made it up at the last miute to fit the iambic pentameter of the narator's rymhing and also just to pyhme with "odd", the workd they used to describe him. I would't worry abou it though. Your work is still awesome. :hug"

Gee, thanks!

Believe me, it's just me. I'm terribly picky as far as names go, for some reason, and then I have to have the nerve to shout to the universe, "I don't like it, man!"
But yeah, you're absolutely right. They had to pick something that rhymed with "odd". Heheh.

Thanks again! You're too kind.

Mitch-el In reply to Peace-love-frogs [2008-05-30 00:42:41 +0000 UTC]

That sucks, man. It's about $8.50 here for the matinee price, and around $10.50 for regular admission. It's insane.

yeah well, 9 dollars is what it is BEFORE tax, and taxes here are high, so it ends up somewhere around 10.......and yes, it does suck......really bad

Aw, you made him look so cute. I was surprised to find out his name is Ned, but I do think it fits him in a way. I also think they decided to call him Ned because Dr. Seuss used that name a lot in a few of his books. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish has a character named Ned and I think the name is also mentioned in Happy Birthday To You.

Gee, thank you!

Cha, it kind of surprised me, as well, but you're right in that it does kind of fit him. And hey yeah, that's true! Heh. I haven't read any of Dr. Seuss' books in so long that I'd forgotten that he liked the name "Ned". Good point.

You're welcome! Dr. Seuss also used "the 15th of May" more than once. I wonder what made that date significant to him...

Mitch-el In reply to Artistic-Savant [2008-05-29 04:58:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. How interesting. Perhaps that particular date signified a turning point in his life...?

Could be. Oh, I found the name Ned in another Seuss book recently added to my collection. It turns up in Hop On Pop too, LOL!

Damn...everybody \'cept me can draw him. I like this, though! ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mitch-el In reply to SmandyDandy [2008-05-27 03:37:30 +0000 UTC]

Believe me, I have attempted to draw him many times and 98% of the time the final result does not turn out the way I want it to look. Whos are tricky little blighters to draw.

Don't worry! Keep practicing and you'll get it right.

Thanks, by the way!
