I learned that from the play, Wicked. I never read any of the books, though I own both the books Wicked and Son of a Witch.

Boy Em got worked up... (yikes) I haven't seen Wicked. Have seen the old musical, 1985's Return and 97's Tinman and read 6 of the books so far. I'm stopping after all of Baums and just a few of Plumkins... Perhaps the only CANON OZ is Baums'. Perhaps it's only what is Public Domain? (I like to think Baum himself woulda' thought that.) 
This is a map of OZ redesigned for Wicked.
As a "Fantasy Map" ala Lord of the Ring and any other fantasy novel that gave two sheets and two shits to bother to put a map in the book(s)... I say it's pretty darn decent. Well done. (claps)

All lands adjoin the Emerald City, the ORIGINAL Oz before the outer empires were annexed.
Much I have explained by the thermonuclear war that ended the super-scientific civilization that preceded Oz.
Whatever this "Wicked" novel, it's NOT canonical.
