Description This is just a relatively quick piece of an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) from one of my favorite game franchises, Halo This took me about 2 hours to do in total, which is pretty good

I hope you like it! Please feel free to leave a comment

Enjoy xD

Yep, I totally do! Way cooler than Spartans.

Say, did you used special brushes for this work, or did you just used the airbrush tool?

Airbrush tool?

I used a really small default brush (Ps cs5) to sketch down the line drawing (Which i didn't use any references for so if anything is wrong and bugging you, sorrryy! Did it from memory straight after playing ODST), then i just made that same brush bigger and drew in the odst's values in black and white. I then did a rough background and then added in colour across the whole piece so that non of the original black and white is showing After that i just used the blur tool to give the effect of a lens focal distance focusing on the closest side of the troopers helmet Hope that helps

Yeah, I'm still using CS4, so there's an airbrush tool/brush I usually use to create nice colour flows. Kinda explains why I've never heard of your method of drawing
So thanks a lot for explaining!

It looks very good to me. It's even more impressive thinking that you drew the whole armour without reference but using your memory and imagination only. Especially the shape of the ODST's helmet is often hard for me to draw, but I think you did it very good here

Ah riiiight You should consider getting CS6, i am soon i think It looks great

And no problem, happy to share xD

Thanks, yeah, i surprised myself to be honest! I went back onto halo ODST after doing the pic (It got me in the mood again! ) and i realized i did pretty well!

THE HELMET WAS ANNOYING!!! lol, i must have reshaped and re-drawn that like 20 times till i was happy haha

Thanks! Your comments mean a lot to me! Especially as your a fellow halo fan Keep up the great art

Yeah, in September when I'm starting to study scientific visualization at the arts university of Zurich I'll get all the drawing programs (CS6 included) for free when I buy the mandatory Mac that's used for the lectures there. Until that I'll have to wait since buying Photoshop... it's expansive as hell :/

I know that problem too. Somehow it's extremely hard to get the helmet's proportions right or it'll look weird. That's why I "cheat" sometimes by peeking at my ODST figure here and there
Still, the ODST helmet and generally the whole armour is probably one of the best looking armours in Halo, if not the best in my opinion since it hasn't this stupid gold mirror visor as most Spartans have. It's very fun to draw it. And black. Black is always awesome
Speaking of ODST, I also should play that game again. I haven't touched it in a while though it's my favorite Halo game together with Halo2. Also because ODSTs rock. Yeah, I'll definitely play it this evening now

You're welcome! I'm never too busy to give a comment to good Halo fanart. In your case it's very well deserved and about time since you're watching me since more than a year. I suggested your drawing to a few groups now. I hope that'll give your work more attention in the Halo community
I'll keep on drawing Halo stuff, don't worry! I drew mostly comic style stuff at the moment and I'm not that active due to my hard times, but I hope that doesn't disappoints you. In fact your drawing inspired me to draw something with more realistic ODSTs now, so stay prepared ^^

Thanks for the watch and the fave of 'Pelican Down!' btw! Much appreciated!

Wow, i bet that will be fun! xD For free!!! Thats awesome! Yeha it is prettyΒ

pricey! lolΒ

I actually dont have an ODST figure! I have noble team, mc (Halo 3), and aΒ

banshee with two grunts and an elite MacFarlane make the best figurines

ever! Yeah the troopers' armour looks awesome! I actually love the very

subtle camo pattern on there clothing under the armour, it looks awesome xD

Im about to start again on the ODST campaign! Love it so much!

Thanks for the comments and faves and for suggesting my pieces to someΒ

groups! I had 7 group requests just then hahah xD I wondered what wasΒ

going on hahah Thanks so much! Means a lot! And i LOVE your style, itsΒ

awesome! I am glad that i have inspired you! Ill keep an eye out for theΒ

more realistic ODST! I bet it will be awesome! Β

Thanks again for the watch!

You're welcome! It's well deserved though, since you're watching me forquite a while too

Yeah, but only as long as I buy the Mac and those things are quite expensive too. Plus I don't like to work with Macs, but I'm afraid I'll have to :/
But at least I'll get CS6 this way and more drawing options.

You should get an ODST figure. They're pretty cool (got a normal one and the version with the drop-pod). But those two are the only UNSC figures I have. The rest is all Covenant
And yep, the camo pattern looks great on the ODSTs. When I draw comic style then I always add it on some parts of the armour ^^

Have fun playing ODST then. I did the same yesterday

No problem. I'll suggest your works to a few other groups too if you're ok with that.Β  You deserve it
Thank you! I'm glad you like my works, though I stick with comic style at the moment. I hope the realistic drawing will look good. Maybe not as good as your, but at least something

Yay!

Yeah, it seems that most academic places use macs... i cant stand them personally! But CS6 will be the same on both so at least you have that to look forward to xD

I really want one! Just don't have the money to spare atm, but when i do ill be getting a few more figurines, including ODSTs and Sangheili Β

Haha thanks to you i just had to reply to 26 faves, 4 group requests and about 10 comments, and thats ontop of about the same yesterday! hahaha thanks! Β

I cant wait to see it! I bet it will be better than your making it out to be! And i love you comic style, it rocks! xD

Same here. Macs are just fuckstupid in handling. I like PC much more, but meh the university wants it this way. At least CS6, that's something

You should get the Rookie figure with drop-pod. That pod is huge! And Rookie also looks good. I got plenty elites already along with some jackals and skirmishers

I hope you'll get more faves and comments than that. You deserve it

We'll see. I'll give my best and then decide if it's good enough ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MitchRoseArt In reply to Dragunalb [2013-07-18 23:14:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, its worth putting up with the crappy mac interface tho for CS6 in

my opinion

And i would love a drop pod! Im currently looking for a summer job, and

if i get one i will definitely get a rookie figure with drop pod xD

Haha, its crazy how many halo fans are looking at my page xD Every

name has 'Elite' or 'Halo' or 'Gamer' in it hahaha xD

That sounds like a good plan Cant wait

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragunalb In reply to MitchRoseArt [2013-07-19 11:55:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the drop pod really is worth the price, so good luck finding yourself a job. I've got to work a lot at the moment to be able to buy that Mac before university starts again :/

Ah, I know that very well. Many Halo fans are crazy, but there are also very good ones. And with your talent it won't take long until you got a lot more watchers than me

Thanks, I hope I'll be able to finish it the next week before I go to my vacation for two weeks

all be worth it in the end wont it

Haha we shall see, i doubt it tho

Oooh sounds nice! I could do with a vacation too tbh! xD

True, just think positive

Nah, you'll get fame faster as you think. Just look at how many faves you got for this work in a few days

I really need a vacation with all this shit going on here. Too much stress and drama.

Well the recent spurt in fame is good (thanks again btw ), but i haven't typed this much on deviantArt ever haha!Β I have like 40 messages a day the last 2 days Its nice, but i like to reply to everyone so i spend aaaaggesss replying to them all

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragunalb In reply to MitchRoseArt [2013-07-21 11:53:52 +0000 UTC]

No problem! I've had to gain my fame all by myself and know exactly how hard and frustrating it can be, so I'm glad if I can help someone get more attention by the fans when he clearly deserves it
And I also know about the comment issue. Sometimes it takes me one or two hours to reply to all of them. Especially if it's a conversation like I'm having with you right now. Plus I'm a foreign speaker, so my English isn't the best (especially since I'm starting to mix it up with American English lol)

You're welcome!
Well good I'm not that annoying then
Thank you! Means a lot to me since I had to teach most of it by myself and the via internet (I was the last age-group who had French instead of English) after a one-year course where I had to learn the whole Enghlish stuff the others learned in three years. That was crazy! And the reason why I never cared about learning the use of the tenses properly. So yeah, please excuse any write error

Well that's REALLY impressive! You are probably better than me! hahaha xD

I did french and russian at school Russian was my fave i thinkΒ

Daaaw, thanks ^^

Damn, I wish I had Russian in school! :C
Well, thanks! I learned English mostly due to reading stuff in the internet after I was finished with school. That and talking to my dear friend from Austin (the reason why I'm starting to mix up British and American English ).
I had Romansh (my mother tongue), German (second mother tongue, kinda) and French in school. Later came English but there are still other languages I'd like to learn like Spanish, Russian and Icelandic

Awesome! Thats a lot of languages to learn Good luck! lol I wanna learn Japanese Would be cool!Β

Dragunalb In reply to MitchRoseArt [2013-07-26 11:57:37 +0000 UTC]

Japanese? That must be hard! I'm not much of a fan of Japan, so for me there are other languages

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MitchRoseArt In reply to Dragunalb [2013-07-26 13:25:00 +0000 UTC]

Probably! But i used to practice Ninjutsu, so i got very inspired to learn Japanese I can get free language lessons at uni this coming year, but i'm not sure i can manage the workload as it is as i do Mechanical Engineering

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragunalb In reply to MitchRoseArt [2013-07-26 20:50:28 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see! My flat mate also studied Mechanical Engineering for a few semesters until he got stressed out and changed his subject of study. I know how hard that is. Kind of a full time job and you'll barely have spare time for other stuff than learning and exercises. Still good luck with that!
I should check too if I still can use the sports rooms and the language courses of the university now that I changed to arts...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MitchRoseArt In reply to Dragunalb [2013-07-26 22:48:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it is very hard... but its worth it in the end because a job in engineering is highly paid (yay!)

I'm sure you will be allowed After all, you are still a student there

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Dragunalb In reply to MitchRoseArt [2013-07-27 03:55:19 +0000 UTC]

True that, but it's still a hard and long journey. So good luck with that! ^^

Yeah, I just have to ask since it's two universities but my field of study works in both places (Scientific Visualization lol).
