I put this together and posted it on FACEBOOK. I claim no ownership of any of the images.Today the BIG nerd/geek influences are things like Harry Potter, LOTR, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones. But way back in the old days we had our own unique Geek Fodder that today's geeks would probably roll their eye at. If your 40 or older you may remember a few of these.

Shouldn't the original Doctor Who be at least mentioned in the classic era? With the original stars like John Pertwii, Tom Baker and so on?

I am looking at it from an American point of view and we never saw DW until the early 80s. I also intentionally left out Star Trek as it is so obvious and still known by today's Geeks.

Yeah. Because it does something that I think is crucial when it comes to terror or suspense. It's not the thing/monster that's important it's what it does to the people around it. How they act and react to it.

What I like is that the "Monster" is right there in the middle of everyone but no one can see it/him until it's almost too late. Most SF films of the time had a "monster" or "alien" but it always came from outer space...another planet. But this time it's a product of human nature disguised as something alien.

Yup. And that's what's cool about "Forbidden Planet". The monster is human nature itself.
