Description Okay, it is finally finished. This is a photo I took myself, but I will be having it professionally scanned or photographed this week(I hope) I went to Kinkos to have it scanned at the suggestion of someone I trusted. Either HE was wrong, or the minimum wage pros at Kinkos just have no idea how to do anything but make Xeroxes of Lost Pet flyers. ANyway, the scan were terrible! Beyond terrible really. The colors were for crap, the resolution really bad. The Clerk tried to blame the scanner, but I don't really buy it. I just don't think she can do anything but hit the SCAN button and hope for the best. ANyway, I took the photo above and it looks many time superior to what the very expensive scanner, and not so expensive Kinkos employee gave me.

"Have no fear! -- Smith is here!" -- LOL -- Damn, that show was truly a classic! -- The robot is still, to this day, the coolest thing I've ever seen from science-fiction! -- The hilarious manner in which Dr. Smith and the robot constantly waged verbal war is one of the most fond tv memories from my childhood.

I'm much more of a first season fan. When Smith was actually evil and not a fool. But when I was a young kid, I did indeed find his antics amusing. Yes, pretty damned cool robot for sure.I still have my 60s era LIS robot model kit! It's in pieces...but I have all the parts.

You are most welcome, aye.

Some fave "Smithisms":

Come along, you bubble headed boobie.

Be still, you blathering blatherskite!

Let go of me, you tin plated ninny!

Get away from me, you garrolous gargoyle!

You ninconpoop!

Be gone, you bucket of bolts!

William!

My back. The pain. The pain...

And of course, all those classic screams Mister Harris could do...

And those screams are almost impossible to imitate! I've heard people who can do Herman and Grandpa from the MUNSTERS, and other 60s era TV showcharacters etc, but never have a I head a really GOOD impression of Jonathan Harris. He had a very unique voice...but of course some of the last work he did was voicework for "A BUGS LIFE" and "TOY STORY".

I always like the guy. he had a unique look and style. A little gay of course, but it worked for him. Oddly, almost every charcetr I recall him playing was either definitely single or the character's marital state was unspecified. Ever see him in teh BLACK SWAN, as a pirate? Johnny Depp has nothing on him.

Yeah! And when he needs help with a role, who does he come to first? ME!
When he landed Willy Wonka, he had no idea how to play it and I told him" Johnny, Dude, just play it like he's Michael Jackson!"
He slapped his forehead and said: "That's It!". The rest is history. But will he run me to the store for some Kraft dinner? Hell no!

Yeah, I knkw. I'm a type 2 Diabetic. I ate a lot of crap as a kid. But it also seems to run in the familay as well.
I eat better these days, but probably not as well as I should. But I don't drink or smoke at all. That helps.

I know a lot of folks with that condition. Given a diet of healthy food and lots of excersize, you can live a relatively normal life. Perhaps one day dotors will discover a way to arrest it.

Just wanted to say my Jupiter Two poster arrived the other day and you and the scanners and everyone inolved did a beautiful job! It gets an honored place on the wall of Retro Sci-Fi.

And Gloria seems like a very nice person. I'm happy she gets something out of this too!

Man! I cannot thank you enough for the personal message! I worked hard on that painting, so it means a lot to me to have someone buy one and then comment about it. And if by any chance you could send me a photo of the legendary Wall of Retro-Sci-Fi, I would really REALLY enjoy seeing it! Thanks very much. And I don't know how you managed the EMOTICON with the framed painting! How perfect!

Thanks again for the kind words.

I really like how you did the background, though I think the moons should be reddish, reflecting the sunrise.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJBivouac In reply to Todshi [2009-12-30 02:09:45 +0000 UTC]

No, that is wrong...the reddish color of sunsets is due to the sun being LOW on the horizon and shining through the Earth's atmosphere. The moons are far out in space and are getting ONLY yellow/white/ light from the sun.

I totally agree, but time is running out and I just had my friend photograph it and it looks GREAT! He's a pro himself and did a great job. But thanks for the offer and I wish I could take advantage of it!

mmustangg In reply to MJBivouac [2009-12-30 05:46:20 +0000 UTC]

I just have a good desk top scanner. If you have a scanner and can scan it in sections, I can stitch them together seamlessly. I do this for even huge 30x40 pieces that I reproduce. I just over lap my scans by about an inch and a half. Color adjusting would be the hard part, as normally I have the original to check a proof against.

Maybe next time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MJBivouac In reply to mmustangg [2009-12-30 07:37:03 +0000 UTC]

I have a good scanner too, and frequently scan in sections and stitch them together VERY successfully. But understand, the painting is 18" X 24", and trying to scan in sections would be very difficult. And the art being on Masonite will not allow it to lay FLAT on the scan glass, as the scanner bed has a slightly raised frame around the scan glass surface. Paper will bend and conform to the glass/frame, but not Masonite.
But fear not, the photo is excellent!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

mmustangg In reply to MJBivouac [2010-01-03 06:02:33 +0000 UTC]

I routinely scan 30x40 canvases in sections and I have developed a method of stitching them that cant be detected. However I didn't know this was on Masonite. That would pose a problem. Sounds like you have it covered though.

Just in case you missed it, I added all my B9 project photos on my Facebook page.

Well, if you did NOT live on the other side of the country, I might take advantage of your skills sometime. Not that I do very many LARGE works. But I would have much preferred to scan this over using a photo...but my friend is a pro and I knew he would do a good job, and he did! His photo looks great!

I'm kind of glad it's over. It came togetehr well...without too many surprises. But I did feel extra pressure on this one since it was to be used a s a poster and has to be appealing enough to sell to a fairly large number of people.
