Description
Tora Olafsdotter, her parents and brother are members of the Ice People an isolated tribe of Norsemen that can wield magic and hide in a hidden mountain range in Norway. The leader of the tribe was Tora’s grandfather who used force and intimidation to control the group.

Born with the metahuman power to generate intense cold and ice, Tora’s parents left the group and went into hiding knowing her grandfather would use her powers to manipulate and control the other tribesmen.
Despite her family’s best efforts to stay hidden Tora's grandfather and his men tracked her family down and attacked them attempting to take them back by force. After seeing her father being badly beaten Tora became emotional and lost control of her powers accidentally causing the death of her family’s attackers and mortally wounded her father. Tora’s father’s dying wish was that she keep control of her powers and stop herself from interacting violently with others.

With the threat of her grandfather now gone Tora and the remainder of her family returned to the tribe in the hidden mountain where her mother became Queen Olaf, her brother a prince and herself a princess. The queen eventually took a new husband who became the new King and they ruled the tribe benevolently.
Tora was severely traumatized by the death of her father and repressed her memories of the horrific event to the point where she forgot what happened and most of her childhood before returning to the hidden mountains. Because of this and her training Tora developed a painfully shy, introverted personality. Despite her shyness Tora had a driving need to help people and animals.

Years later when Ice had grown into a young woman an engineer named Rod Schoendienst discovered the ice people and earned the trust of the tribe and their royal family which eventually lead to Rod making a pact with the King that allowed Tora to leave their kingdom with him so she could use her powers to help the world.
After leaving the mountains Rod introduced Tora to Doctor Mist and the United Nations funded super team called the Global Guardians. Tora knew she could help people by joining such a group and joined them under the name Ice Maiden.
During her time on the team Tora met the flame generating Brazilian heroine Beatriz DaCosta, codenamed Green Flame/Green Fury. Beatriz, a wild, outgoing and impulsive fun loving person was the polar opposite of Tora in every respect but the two became inseperateble friends.

After the Guardians lost their U.N. funding in the wake of the Justice League's reformation as the Justice League International, Beatriz talked Tora into walking up to a JLI embassy with her and asking for jobs on the team and both hounded Martian Manhunter trying to convince him that they would be an asset to the Justice League. Thanks to the Black Canary resigning from the team and the abduction of several league members, the short-handed JLI took Tora and Beatriz on as members much to their surprise and elation. Beatriz took the name Fire and Tora became Ice.
Ice served with the Justice League International for years remaining with the American branch even after a European branch was opened. Surprisingly Tora developed a relationship with fellow teammate Guy Gardner, the brash, outspoken Green Lantern assigned to the team. Guy and Tora became very close to one another during their time together on the team and they dated off and on for years always remaining best friends during the off times.

Ice also expressed an open though unrequited crush on Superman after he rejoined the Justice League. When the monster Doomsday came to Earth causing massive amounts of destruction the Justice League and Superman battled the creature. Ice was one of the few Justice Leaguers still standing after Doomsday cut a path of destruction through Metropolis and the League. Ultimately Superman died stopping Doomsday much to the shock and sadness of Ice and the rest of the superhuman community.

Later Ice’s brother attempted to conquer the Ice People much like his grandfather before him but Ice returned and defeated her brother which resulted in her powers becoming greatly enhanced.

After this the Overmaster A 580 million-year-old alien who considered himself a celestial force beyond good and evil who would test and then pass judgment on entire planets found Earth. After two of these so called tests the Overmaster deemed humanity to be too dangerous to live based on its ability to produce super powered beings.

Using mind control the Overmaster selected a group of powerful super humans from earth to form a group he called the Cadre to attack and defeat Earth’s defenders and ultimately destroy the planet. Ice was among his chosen that fell under his influence and as a result got her powers boosted to the point where she leveled the Justice League’s United Nations headquarters single handedly and defeated her former teammates.

After being captured, Fire pleaded with her friend Ice to remember who she was and break the Overmaster’s control over her mind. Ice was shaken by her the entire Justice League invaded the Overmaster’s spacecraft base perched atop Mount Everest and began a full assault on the Cadre and the Overmaster himself.

When the Justice League defeated the Cadre, Ice confronted her former teammates ready to fight them but Martian Manhunter confronted her and broke through her conditioning. Enraged by what the Overmaster had done to her Ice led the battle charge into the Overmaster’s inner sanctum and confronted him after reuniting briefly with a freed Fire who was happy to see her friend back in control of herself.

The Overmaster confronted the assembled heroes and became incensed when Ice defiantly told him she would never betray the planet or her friends again and vowed to bring him to justice for what he had done. Ice charged at Overmaster using her full power on him but the godlike alien blasted her with his own energy killing her. Enraged by their friend’s death the Justice League attacked en masse and the Amazing Man ended up accidentally killing the Overmaster during the battle.

The Justice League then used the spaceship’s technology to reverse all effects of the Overmaster’s activities, sent it onto Earth orbit and turned it into their new orbiting satellite headquarters.

After Ice’s death a heartbroken Guy Gardner fought his way into the home city of the Ice People who mistook him as a threat. Once Guy made it clear to everyone that he simply wanted to go to Tora’s home to pay his respects to her family he was welcomed by Ice's mother, Queen Olaf. The Queen assured Guy that due to the happiness he had brought her beloved daughter, he was always welcome at any time in their kingdom and referred to Guy as “son.”

Much later in Russia, the super team called the Birds of Prey discovered Ice’s healed but unconscious body within a Rocket Red armored exosuit which was being transported by the villain team known as the Secret Six on behalf of the underworld criminal Kerimov who had been auctioning off the Rocket Red suits on the black market.

The Birds of Prey and Secret Six battled over the suit containing Ice’s body which Kerimov planned to resurrect in order to manipulate and rule the Russian people by playing on their superstitions about ice princesses and goddesses. As her “savior and the person that resurrects her, Kerimov would hold influence over here mentally making Ice a powerful puppet for him to control.

During the conflict Creote, a member of Birds of Prey team and native Russian witnessed Ice awaken and addressed her as "the goddess". Upon awakening Ice is in a state of rage and unleashes her wrath upon both the Birds of Prey and the Secret Six seeking to avenge her own murder.

The Bird of Prey Huntress mentions Guy Gardner, in addition to slapping Ice hard across to face while at the same time Deadshot of the Secret Six kills Kerimov. Both events freed Ice from being mind controlled and she reverted back to her normal personality. Ice then left Russia with the Birds of Prey who brought her back to the United States of America.
Since then Ice has reunited with her best friend Fire and has rekindled her romance with Guy Gardner and rejoined the fight against evil.
