This probably taught me more than two months of attending local photography club's meetings.

This has a wonderful lot of information, but I can't finish it right now because I'm too sleepy

I'm sure you were so interested to know that. In any event, this is going to be very helpful in the future for me, not just in stock, but art photography as well. Thank you very much for providing this resource, and now to move on to a couple questions...

1. What's your location? I think I might like to pose for you, since you shoot excellent stock, not to mention just meeting a deviant in person would prove to be a great experience, esp. one as well-humored as you.

2. I saw a Watershot of a model on the front page, haven't heard back from the photographer in my question, so I thought I may as well ask you if you might know the particulars of doing one? I would link you to it for an example, but apparently my favorite didn't save and my activity isn't pulling up.

Thank you again!

... consider a different hobby: maybe knitting.

HAH! If you only knew! The drama that knitting designers get up to over copyright infringements, oy. Geez. "The" knitting website (ravelry.com) is full of people whining over this and that thing that this and that other person stole from them - my idea! My image! My pattern!

Okay, copyright infringement - bad. But if they think that their idea for a something-or-other sweater is deathless poetry that no one could have every possibly imagined before... yeah right.

Ahem. Anyway. Pointless meandering comment ending - almost now.

Thank you for this!!

Hey, quick question: Any advice for potential models? I tried signing up for ModelMayhem and within a few minutes I was slammed with a bunch of BS requests from what seemed like typical GWCs (Guy with camera, for those who don't know). It's hard to put your name out as a potential model without having to fend off a ton of pervs. :/ I would love to be able to do some modeling but I want it to be stuff that would be useful for other artists, not just an excuse for shooting little more than pornography.

Can you give me some advice on how to recognize a real photographer with good intentions from the creeps just looking for an excuse to get a girl out of her clothes?

mjranum-stock In reply to otterling [2009-04-28 15:46:10 +0000 UTC]

That's a tough one I've really got no standing to address - it'd be better to try to get a model to answer it. And there's 10,000 threads on that topic on modelmayhem (incredibly boring).

The truth is that 99% of the guys with cameras who shoot girls are into it because they like girls. So you're going to either be dealing with GWCs whose photography is good, or GWCs whose photography sucks - but no matter what, we're all GWCs. I sure am.

otterling In reply to mjranum-stock [2009-04-30 10:43:02 +0000 UTC]

Hehehehe. Ok, fair enough, I agree most photographers are guys who love to photograph beautiful women. I guess my gripe is the ones who are only picking up the camera so they can try and get naive girls to get naked for them. They aren't interested so much in actually taking the photos and don't put any thought into them. :/ Thus, they are the GWCs whose photography sucks. :/

I appreciate the response none the less though and I'll go check out the threads on Model Mayhem.

Thanks for putting this tutorial together. Lots of good advice for photography in general that I think any aspiring amateur can learn from. When I worked in the Communications dept. at a university, we took faculty portraits outside with a Canon Rebel and a piece of white foamboard as a reflector. Sure beat the price of hiring a pro, and the resulting images were more than good enough to use in print.

Now thats an interesting read !

How ever one thing on the folds or crease on the fabric.

Have a steamer on hand this would work well to flattening them out in no time.
