Description
Model isThis took about an hour to prepare, and a great deal of patience on the part of the model. I started off with the initial "ripped" part and then worked outward from there; final clean-up with Q-tips and water was time-consuming, and I still had to do a bit of touch-up in photoshop.
When we finished, we discovered that Yarrow had not thought to rub release agent on her arms, so removing the plaster was a lot louder than I expected it to be.

Ok, seriously, what did you do to her that she needed such a heavy protection? Didnt she want to pose in your favourite pose (the one you described in one of your journals) ?

She has goosebumps and i know why that stuff is SO cold! I used to make fake plasters for my arm with my brother and sister with my mums friend who used to get all the leftover plaster rolls.
This looks amazing, and i think it would have been very fun! Model is gorgeous!

Have you ever read the story of Pygmalion and his Ivory Girl, in Ovid's Metamorphoses? This reminds me of it - vividly.
Bravo.

Kinda like I don't create statues from the marble, I just let out whats already within the marble.

Hope her skin is ok. I've had plaster cloth on my hands, and it gave me psoriasis something fierce. My skin still gets all cracked and nasty looking if my hands get too dry.
That concern aside, excellent work, as always.

Really?? Well, she had a good protective coating on her.. But. Urr. Is that a common reaction?

dragon-kin-dancer In reply to mjranum [2008-10-04 05:06:56 +0000 UTC]
yes that is a common reaction due to the nature of the plaster being alkili (if i remember correctly) and the drying effect it has on skin. use of baby oil and lotion can reduce recovery time. but it can still last for extremely prolonged periods of time depending on exposure time and the individual's system. in grade school i used that plaster cloth to make masks and molds and some of my class mates had the dry cracking itching skin for months after. but lotion and baby oil work well to repair the damage.

Dunno if it's common or not, but I don't think the plaster cloth we used was a particularly high grade of cloth. I also didn't have any kind of protective coating on my hands; it was just high school art class, and it seemed like a fun idea at the time. So I slapped some on my hands and went to town.

I have a friend who once was doing a face cast in that method and fogot to put release agent on her eyelashes........ let's just say that day ended with a trip to the emergency room, co get it cut off by someone with VERY steady hands!
