Description This is an animated .GIF flyaround. It was made using the methods described in: [link]

To see this image properly you must download the full size version! - click the "download" option on the upper left menu on this page.

Unfortunately, Zinn appears to have shifted her balance slightly during the shooting, so it looks like she's moving a bit strangely. But with 32 frames of photoshop touch-up invested in getting this looking right I'm reluctant to simply toss it.

What really sucks about doing these is that you can't really tell how it's going to animate until you finish it. So after 2 hours in photoshop I got to click "go" and was a bit disappointed. I really liked this particular pose. Next time I will comp the frames and make a small test image to see if the animation is smooth then go do the photoshop fine-work.

I love this one. The sheer fabric adds so much to the illusion.

Besides the fact that this is beautiful that has incredible quality for a gif file. My avatar is 99 frames long and was mostly animated by hand in photoshop. So I can really appreciate the effort it took to make this.

Your avatar's animation is extremely smooth. That took a lot of work, too!

ninety-nine frames at 0.02 frames per second except for the key frame which is 1.9 seconds so that it has an equal amount of time on the other side of the eye as it does with the pupil and iris in it.

the way she looks because of her shifting her weight is like shes doing some sort of strange hip shaking dance. but it still looks really good though. the sheet never changes place so while shes moving a little bit the rest stays pretty solid which makes it on the whole look like a groovy statue.

Btw, I enjoyed reading your method. That's how I figured you did it, with the lazy susan. I had an idea for something like that once unfortunately I don't have any models to play with the idea.

A nice one ...

But like I said once before, you should try Flash for these things. There's an option to "ease in" the next frame, so the animation could be a lot smoother - not to mention the file size (just the jpegs combined).

Nevertheless, great work. I'm looking forward for more of these!

LoserLunatic [2007-02-09 20:17:38 +0000 UTC]

As she is turning there's a point where her face and body is mainly in shadow and only part of her right side is visible maybe about one breast. The rest is mainly shadow. Any chance we can see a still of that? Ever done a 3D fly around? That would be cool to see I think.

I'm not sure if I want to post out-frames from this set. Lemme see how they look.

Hmmm... email me at mjr@ranum.com and I'll send it. I don't think that by itself it's ready for prime time.

Yeah making spins are a bit difficult when using a live subject but don't get discourage just keep doing it. there is this book for artist that has a CD that does spins also. You probably might have seen it already but its called "Virtual Pose", I like the second book. Its not the greatest but its as good as it get in my opinion as of spins of models.

She's a beautiful model and her pose reminds me of the classic Greek/Roman statues, even if her figure doesn't. The stutter in the turn-around is actually kind of cool- I don't know what it reminds me of, but it seems almost familiar.

these are very cool! you should just do it matrix style: several cameras around her and shoot all at once. no stutter/slouching that way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mjranum In reply to masterofshadows [2007-02-09 14:05:19 +0000 UTC]

I actually looked into doing that. The cost for 50 cheap digital cameras on Ebay would have been about $1000 - but what really scared me was the effort involved in taking the housings off of them and making a wiring harness to each of the shutter switches. Eeek... I figured it was about 3 weeks of work.
