I recognised the images of Bai Hu, metal, Zhu Que, fire, Qing Long, wood, and Xuanwu, water. But I don't see anything in this drawing. I heard the Jade Emperor was earth, but I don't see any representation. If there is, could you enlighten me?

I considered including a ying-yang but that seemed too trite so I went with the lotus instead. Above all I wanted the woman to give off a stable, kind, patient vibe. Earth is the center, drawing all things together to bring harmony and stability. Hope that clarifies it.

I love how the stones above her hand could be rising or falling or floating, and how the top and bottoms ones have a little sparkle. I like the style of the clouds, too. I love looking at your artwork, I could admire it for hours and there would always be something else, some other detail to notice.

are you ever going to color or are you like me, you just don't like to color?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJWilliam In reply to Mareasol [2006-11-03 21:41:36 +0000 UTC]

I have no problem with color. I do both color and monocrome work. This series was just always meant to be monochrome.

another stunning work! I adore her clothes can't wait to see the rest of the series!!
do you use referance for the figures and clothes?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJWilliam In reply to RozeChan [2006-11-01 19:31:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I used reference for figures, and sometimes patterns (from authentic Asian clothing) but the clothes I design myself.

RozeChan In reply to MJWilliam [2006-11-01 19:37:34 +0000 UTC]

very very cool! you have a really good anderstanding of fabric and folds I find it very difficult

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJWilliam In reply to RozeChan [2006-11-03 00:48:39 +0000 UTC]

One word: reference. Just throw a cloth on the chair and draw it with different light sources. After you practice for a while like this you really begin to understand how the fabric works.... Thanks for the comments, BTW!
