Description
Trionyxra velocis (left):
Adults of this species achieve an impressive length of 45 centimeters, making it a formidable presence in its aquatic habitat. The body of Trionyxra velocis is streamlined, designed for swift movement through the open waters. This species is well-suited for a pelagic lifestyle, allowing it to cover long distances in its search for suitable hunting grounds. It preys upon smaller aquatic organisms, utilizing its front limbs to grab and secure its prey.
Trionyxra insidiis (middle) :
It is an extraordinary species of large predatory triops. Adult specimens of Trionyxra insidiis can attain an impressive length of 130 centimeters. They inhabit shallow coastal regions, but they avoid the swampy areas as their flat inflexible bodies can easily get stuck in the dense vegetation. While they are waiting for prey to come by, they stay hidden in the sediment until the right moment presents itself.
Scrutacacris longipoda (bottom right):
The body of Scrutacacris is characterized by long, agile limbs, with specialized front limbs adapted for grabbing and manipulating objects in its environment. As a carnivorous and opportunistic scavenger, this triops feeds on a variety of prey and carrion found on the lake's floor. The specialized front limbs are crucial for grabbing and manipulating both live prey and scavenged food items.
Cyanotriops propecaecum (top right):
The only triops that could be considered a herbivore, inhabits the moss forests of the Central-lakes and is a keystone species of it. While they do eat the mosses, they mostly eat the algae that grows on them and even other small plankton living on the moss. By this, they actually keep the mosses healthy and help them grow faster.
