Description
Cliff divers belong to a waterfowl-like group of crow descendants. The common cliff diver is a global species that can live anywhere where there is a sufficient coastline to jump off of. They are basically flightless, but they can glide if they have to. They exclusively eat marine fish. The interesting part is how they catch their prey. They spend most of their time on top of large rocks or cliffs directly next to the ocean. When they're hungry, they simply jump down into the water and catch some fish. They are excellent swimmers, both on the surface and below. If they catch enough, they climb back onto their perch.
Nesting is a difficult thing for them because there isn't always enough spece on the small rocks they call home. Sometimes it leads to conflict between pairs, and they fight over a nesting spot. If they find a place that is suitable for a nest, they bring seaweed, pebbles, fish bones, or other debree they can find. When the eggs hatch, the chicks are fully capable of walking and swimming, and they follow their parents closely for about 3 weeks while they feed them, protect them, and show them how to hunt.
