This show actually really surprised me. As soon as Alex Hirsch announced his involvement (not creation, this show was made by Shion Takeuchi) I was interested in checking it out, but after hearing it was an adult cartoon I became skeptical of it. This is because I have been having a massive falling out with adult cartoons over the last year or so. I use to love them when I was a somewhat edgy teenager, but as I grow older I am actually kind of repulsed by how pointlessly dark and legitimately offensive so many of them are. Not to say that I dislike all adult cartoons nowadays. There are still a few that I quite like. With that being said even though this show can get quite dark and violent I never once found it to be actively offensive or punching down at any groups of people like other shows do. This alone would have been great yet it goes the extra mile and actually calls out things like racism and sexism. This is unheard of for most adult cartoons. It kind of reminds me of Bojack Horseman because of this. Aside from that this might be the hardest I have laughed at a cartoon in quite some time. Sure some of it might have been cheap reference humor, but as biased as this might be if it panders to me I don't mind it quite as much and might actually get a good chuckle out of it. Some of the characters, specifically Reagan and Brett, are actually really interesting, complex, and likable. Most of the others aren't nearly as well developed, but they are still very fun to watch. I was also quite surprised by the story here. It is great that this show even has a story and it is ever better because of how invisibly interwoven it is to some of the earlier things in the season that I thought were just throwaway gags. By the finale of season one I was on the edge of my seat anticipating what was going to happen next. Overall a really good show. Can't wait to see what happens next.
