For that situation, I've made 6 male ponies. Zoreck the studious, Shadow Hurricane the Mach 8-fast Storm Pegasus, James Grape the all-american farm boy, Joey the insanely hilarious comedian, Comet Eye the pegasus with the ability to talk to nature, & Zane the wise unicorn with an eye for detail.

Mine's called Hot Rod, who's paired with Rainbow Dash, and my sister has one called Bluesy, who's paired with Fluttershy.

For me, Zoreck to Twilight Sparkle, Shadow Hurricane to Rainbow Dash, James Grape to Applejack, Joey to Pinkie Pie, Comet Eye to Fluttershy, & Zane to Rarity. Zoreck used to date Rarity, until they broke up. Twilight & Zane broke up afterwards. Next thing ya know, boyfriend/girlfriend switch.
Long story short: Zoreck seemed lonely as he sat on his roof to Twilight, so she teleported to him, conforted him, & they begin making out. Rarity was depressed & continued to cry as she stay locked inside. Zane came in one day & found her crying on her desk. Rarity cried on Zane's shoulder as he comforted her. Next thing ya know, baboom they begin makin' out.
