At Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, USA. This is a 750,000 volt power supply which provides the voltage for the first stage accelerator (known as the pre-accelerator).

This power supply is what starts the particles on their perilous journey toward the smashing part of the program...

This image was obtained during a visit guided by an employee that allowed access to parts of the lab otherwise off limits to visitors. This particular shot would be impossible to get during normal operations of the accelerator for reasons that may be obvious...XD
