Description
Well, what can I say... it's just a shuriken model...Not a copy of any existing shuriken type/model, sort of my own desing.
Looks kinda too old though...
...
Modeled in 3dsmax4, rendered with V-Ray.

There are no lights. Just a hdri image as a lighting source

Wow, man. Those look so awesome and sharp. The only complaint I would have is the strange warping of the lower one which takes away its symmetry. =o But otherwise it's so convincing.

Thanks!
I guess camera distortion does that warping.

Nice shuriken you got there. Try to render it with vray demo plugin and use a hdri image a lighting source.

Woooow! I'm really impressed! How long did you work on it and how is it made(build with faces or just created with primitives etc. )?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
mmarti In reply to xRaptor [2006-07-06 20:09:02 +0000 UTC]
It didn't take long at all. Modeling - 45 minutes, materials/textures - 1 hour and rendering/setup - 2 or 3 hours...
It's simple poly-modeling.

What is V-Ray?
is it like an external renderer or a plugin or what?
where can i get it?

No need to put your project aside... very good looking katana you've got there. Very well done model and textures and in my opinion it's pretty much finished. Only thing I would suggest, that you use a little more glossiness subdivisions on the sharpened part of the blade, it looks a bit too grainy... (unless you used noise map there) Other than that it's perfect!
I like it even more than my shurikens.

B0R In reply to mmarti [2005-12-06 17:10:09 +0000 UTC]
yeah, i used bumpmap for the sharpend part of the blade ( all in 1 shader... the material react to a p.o.v ray direction - for a video render so it will be darker or brighter then the steel itself... i worked on that material about 2-3 weeks, created like 6 diffrend steel shaders )
most off all, thank you very much, means alot to me . i love your works.

I love the DoF, and intricate details with the dragon carvings (V-Ray displacement, or just bump map?).
VERY good quality textures, I love the used/worn look, you are obviously a pro with multiple texture layers. Ohh yeah, V-Ray rocks, I love it.
Keep up the good work.

Thnaks
Yes, there were several textures... the usual ones, like specular, bump, diffuse, reflection and glossiness. No displacement though. Vray is a good one indeed...

man, you wouldnt belive they actually make shurikens very similar to that, in fact when i was 15, they where the first style i bought. the one i have is slightly more curved.
btw, nice render. ive got to spend some time in maya when i get my other priorities out of the way.

Yeah, I kinda like that design myself. I modeled the whole set of 'em, but this is the one I decided to texture and render...
