Awesome work man. I'd kill to have a set of these on my car... hah. Love the concept car render as well. It's nice to see all the objects that go into a great render like that. Great job.

All it needs is a pattern texture on the rubber ... and then it would be beyond kickass ... its only kickass now ...

Yes, it's a bump map. I didn't model the pattern, because I intended to use this wheel on a car, thus I didn't want additional polys to slow things down. One wheel would have been atleast 50-100K polys, multiply it by 4 and you get 1-2 million polys with car body + its accessories.

nice.
more questions! o_O
Did you use a bumpmap for the tyre pattern?

Yeah, patience is pain in the ass. Once again, great detail and modeling skills. I've been to your site and renders kick ass.

Well, I can write a general tutorial about how to create a wheel like this, although, it will take some time... Oh well, anyways, when do I write one, I'll send it to you (sowmiles) or put it somewhere on the net. I'll notify you when it's done.

Btw, sorry... I used 15 for segments, when I lathed those splines... Heh, 10 is odd number... silly me...

this sort of uber realistic 3d work always amazes me, having the talent (and stupid amounts of patience) to create something like this is pretty damn good
Thanks for the tips too, appreciated!

Great to see another stellar submission from you! This is a good piece of modeling. The details and materials are fantastic. Looking forward to seeing the finished car! be SURE to post it

Well, that supposed to be a brand new tire, so I made it kinda shiny.
Hum, about the tips... In general it's sort of easy - just make the wheel's profile (I used splines), lathe it (number of sides is important - in my case it was 10, since I got odd number spokes eg. 5). Then cut the right faces in the right places, so they represent the reference wheel's holes (in my case, OZ Racing's "Crono Evolution"). Then extrude the polys you've just cut... couple times... now you got rough wheel, next thing is a lot of vertex/poly tweaking... 6-8 hours and you're done...
...and don't forget to clone the reference model and add meshsmooth after you lathed the profile... in order to see, what you're doing there.
Btw, if anyone of you wants some inspiration on what kind of alloy wheel you should create - [link] is a great place for a start.
Happy modeling.

Looks great, I like the metall part, but i think u should reduse the glosiness
of the tire texture and make it a little bit bumbpy

you dont need to use advanced techniques to create beautiful peices. I love this one.
