Description This one was a doozy. It didn't take as long as my longest digital work but it still took a while. Much of that was just trying to get it to look like Yoda, which was harder for me than I thought. I redid the details about 3 times after flatting because I couldn't get it looking the way I wanted.

I coloured in grayscale first and then tried to colour on top of it, but it looked really off, and I couldn't get the colours just right. Some of that was due to the limitations of my monitor I think. I drew the clothes a bit light, which doesn't show through as much under the colour.

Overall, pretty happy with this.

I'm no expert on Yoda, but this is pretty sick, man. I see it as more of a hardcore caricature. There is something about the background that distracts me, and I can't quite figure it out...maybe there's a naked constellation in the stars, lol. Anyway, this is great!

I would have liked to have done a "realistic" painting, but I'm not at that point in my experience and technique yet and I think it's tough to make a pretend, non-humanoid character look real. Also, he would have looked too much like a Muppet in my mind. I get the feeling people think it doesn't look enough like Yoda, but that's just my version, just like the prequel version, the OT version and the Clone Wars version look different. Don't know what to say about the background except that's pretty much as simple as I could make it without it being just colour or shade But I'm really glad you and others like the drawing!

Thanks a lot for the comments!

Well, I think its good. And screw what anyone else but you thinks of your own work, unless it is actually constructive. I've been watching these movies since I was like 5 years old, and while I'm fascinated by the art and myth of Star Wars, I am baffled by how seriously some people take it...who cares if he has a dent on his chin or not? lol. You have a good sense of style, light logic and imagination. As far as the background, what I meant is there could have been more of it. Reason is that its a relatively small dark area that is kind of off-set in the middle of a lighter tone. It isn't that it doesn't work, but that since our eyes are naturally attracted to light, the background kind of fights with the foreground and other aspects of the composition for attention. Don't know if that makes sense. I'll end my novel here, lol.

I wasn't specifically referring to other comments here, but thanks for kind words! I hope I didn`t sound like I was complaining because I wasn`t. At this point, I don't draw to please other people but if they like my stuff, then cool. If I ever get real work then I'll worry about that when it comes.

Yeah, my backgrounds suck right now That gray tone I used for some of the flatting. I was going to try to attempt a kind of fancy texture background but went with that space thing instead and just left that tone as part of the picture. I`m just starting to delve into light behaviour and colour theory so hopefully I`ll get better at those aspects!

Thanks again!

Nice! It's really awesome. The dramatic lighting on his skin really sets the scene. Also your work with his hands and wrinkles are amazing! Yoda is definitely my favorite character in Star Wars, apart from Chewbacca ^^
If I may give you some critique to think about: his head looks a little big, as does the part over his top lip, also I'm pretty sure Yoda doesn't have a cleft chin. Finally, his lightsaber seems to be in another perspective than himself. It becomes shorter faster than he does.
Other than that, awesome work! Keep it up!

Thank you! I would love it if everyone gave a critique of my work. I really am always trying to improve and the only way I'll do it is if I get more comments like this. For whatever reason, the mental image I have of Yoda is that his head is bigger than his body, much like Stewie Griffin. As for the bum-chin, the puppet version in Phantom Menace kinda has one, but I didn't use that as inspiration so I guess I just thought it would complement the bumps on his head. The lightsaber I REALLY want to fix now but I'm gonna be a better man than George Lucas and leave it the way it is! What's done is DONE!

Thank you again for the comments! Believe me, they are much appreciated!

Ugh, I'm sorry but I couldn't take it anymore, I had to fix the lightsaber! I know George Lucas' pain! I sympathize!!! But that's the only change I'm making...
