Finally finished this one, with only two days to spare
Its my first fanart for pokemon heart gold and soul silver! 83 I wanted to do some anyway, so this is a perfect oppurtunity. It's based around how the pokemon follow you in the game now, a feature i adore by the way
This is for a pop culture convention drawing contest, i enter every year. ... Well i've only succesfully entered one year so far XD its a long story. Anyway here's my 2010 entry, here's hoping i win 1st place this year! ^__^
If you're interested, here's what I did for the past two years
2009: elessthehedgecat.deviantart.co…
2008: elessthehedgecat.deviantart.co…
The last two years i did A3 entries, but i realised that its not size the matters, its quality. So focusing my efforts on a smaller A4 piece would be best, so i wouldnt struggle to fill the paper.
It isnt perfect, some of the pokemon look off (what happened to you totodile? ), but i think overall it looks pretty good.
and PLEASE do not whine about a certain favourite pokemon of yours not being included, because 1) It was very hard to include so many pokemon in such a small space, 2) I wasnt too biased about the choices, i chose a few of my favourites and the rest were picked because they could fit and 3) I just couldnt give a toss. ^__^
I hope you enjoy this! 83
EDIT::
There's been a bit of a misunderstanding apparently. Some of you have thought that I ripped off one of 's artwork, which is a beautifully done piece by the way. However I assure you that this is not the case. There are a lot of similarities between the two, but this is purely coincidental.
When i drew this, my only inspirations were the games, and also the anime.
I have discussed this with , and the issue has been sorted out. So no further comments or arguments are required. Any comments about the matter will be ignored.

Thank you for the critique. 83 Im actually quite happy you liked the background more, thats the bit i was worried about XD
You made some very good points here, I was debating wether to use inking at all, but decided it would make things a lot easier. I do think if i hadnt used ink at all though it would look better. I do see what you mean.
Again, thank you for your two cents. ^__^

I appreciate your positive response
Ink can be a tricky medium. Speaking of which, I recommend adding extra weight to your drawing by varying line width when you ink. If you had used thicker outlines for the Pokemon/Gold, then I probably wouldn't have noticed that you outlined the colors, too. Balance is key :>

I take it you dont often get positive feedback from your critiques? XD Some people cant take crits.
Ahh yes people have said that before, i usually only do it for pictures with one character where its obvious, but it may have looked better if i applied it here. ^_^ I have to practise inking.

I often do, actually, if I get any response at all. I just like it when people don't flip out.
It could have looked rather busy if you did it with ALL THOSE POKEMON, so maybe I'm giving bad advice
It's all good, you're a budding artist on a great track. I mean, seriously, you really got far up on the popular page.

Well i would like not being abused every once in a while too XD Some people take it way too personally sometimes, which is the main problem. They just have to realise the comments have good intentions. 83
Eiether way, i would test wether it looks good or not before i inked, and besides, its all about trial and error ^_^
I really did didnt I? O__o that suprised me, but i guess its cause pokemon is super popular right now XD

A fantastic vision on a game with so many attributes and nostalgia, "Let's go walkies" really shows the meaning of how the new remakes of Gold and Silver can be used for its so many new features.
This piece really gives a nice blow to traditionall colors and linearts, showing the protagonist going through an adventure with Pokémons that awaits his way.
I love the trad color you made here, as well as how you kept everything in such a wonderfull proportion.
With every humourous expression in this pic, there's no doubt that this makes the games so fun! The shading is perfect with no sorts of difficulty at all, however there's not so much flaws in this pic, the only thing I could bring up is that maybe you could've added a little more to the background, eitherway it's still amazing.
Prompts to you for making this wonderful piece of art, and waking many fans of the classic era. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Thank you for the critique! ^__^
The background was a bit of an issue, though i decided that if it was complicated, it would detract from the pokemon in the foreground. So i decided to go simple. 83

omg I wrote out a very nice review but i hit esc on accident and erased the whole thing! D: >.<
oh well i can rewrite it....or at least most of it e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

the first thing i see is that the colors are full and bright. very happy and upbeat. The tree in the background is very pretty...i want one! lol
all the pokemon look great, i see no issues and the anatomy is very well done.
now i don't know the main protagonist of the game but when i see his hair i think that the hair on the front of his head sticks out through the hole in the front (well the back but the hat is backwards) it sees to be coming out of the hat..literally lol, but im just being picky. It's hard to find ways to improve lol.
your art keeps getting better and better. keep up the great work and i cant wait to see future art of your pokemon and walkies ^^

Oh gees man that sucks D8 I hate it when that happens!
Thank you for the critique! (and all the trouble you had to go through to give it XD)
Well you'd think it goes through the hole wouldnt you! But when i was looking at my reference, it does actually look like this! I think its an anime hair thing, where it comes out from under the hat and magically flops like that XD
thanks very much for the comment! X3

I love this piece of art work! I want to know how you did the beautiful background that way, like blank stripes? I plan on learning to color like this, but so far I have failed. Haha.
All and all On of my favorites of your's Eless. Fantastic job.

Thank you very much! ^__^ hmm, im not sure i remember, i think i just drew in some faint pencil lines and coloured in them, though a good way of doing that as well is to get some masking tape that is not too sticky and place it over the drawing and you can draw over it, then take it off and it'll be perfectly straight. you can also do that with paint. 8)
Keep at it, it takes a while to perfect. 8) Im even not at the level i want to be yet.

Oh I bet, but I'm always up for a good challenge. It allows me to learn things, better from my mistakes then just getting it right away. Thank you for the advice, Eless, I need it every now and then.

take it slow, build layers. 83 You should find your own method, i start by fully colouring each object in the bg. but thats just me

well it was well worth it! I love it all, the red gyrados and the ho-oh, the chicorita and the furret, you even added Suicune. Suicune is my favorite legendary trio pokemon EVER!
and whats wierd is that my favorite thing in this pic is the random tree in the background. and cleary you added yellow to the grass, good work! ^_^

Thank you! ^_^ Suicune's my fav as well. X3 I would have added the other two but i ran out of room.
Thats something i added at the last minute to fill the space, glad it worked out. 83 and yeah i add yellow to green all the time, just makes the green pop a bit.
