The Twa Corbies (Scottish Version of this anonymous ballad )

As I was walking all alane,
I heard twa corbies makin a mane;
The tane unto the ither say,
"Whar sall we gang and dine the-day?"

"In ahint yon auld fail dyke,
I wot there lies a new slain knight;
And nane do ken that he lies there,
But his hawk, his hound an his lady fair."

"His hound is tae the huntin gane,
His hawk tae fetch the wild-fowl hame,
His lady's tain anither mate,
So we may mak oor dinner swate."

"Ye'll sit on his white hause-bane,
And I'll pike oot his bonny blue een;
Wi ae lock o his gowden hair
We'll theek oor nest whan it grows bare."

"Mony a one for him makes mane,
But nane sall ken whar he is gane;
Oer his white banes, whan they are bare,
The wind sall blaw for evermair."

The Two Crows ( translation into standard English).

As I was walking all alone,
I heard two crows (or ravens) making a moan;
One said to the other,
"Where shall we go and dine today?"

"In behind that old turf wall,
I sense there lies a newly slain knight;
And nobody knows that he lies there,
But his hawk, his hound and his lady fair."

"His hound is to the hunting gone,
His hawk to fetch the wild-fowl home,
His lady's has taken another mate,
So we may make our dinner sweet."

"You will sit on his white neck-bone,
And I'll peck out his pretty blue eyes;
With one lock of his golden hair
We'll thatch our nest when it grows bare."

"Many a one for him is moaning,
But nobody will know where he is gone;
Over his white bones, when they are bare,
The wind will blow for evermore."

Whoa nice! Β Reminds me a bit of Edgar Allen Poe. Β By the way, I have been reading stories from www.americanfolklore.net. Β I learned a legend from NCin regard to Edward Teach aka Blackbeard.

What would you do if you saw a multi-eyed, blue whale that served as somebody's house?

Probably cause a slowdown or accident in traffic gawking at the thing.

I read from americanfolklore website about the hauntings at Yellowstone, apparently there was a woman that walks up the staircase of a hotel at the park. Β She is said to be headless and walks up the steps to room at twelve in the morning.

Wow, talk about a wake up call. Β Does it ever explain who she is and how she lost her head in the first place?

Yeah, it 8s in a book called Spooky Yellowstone. Β Her parent disowned her after she married one of the house servants. Her father paid for their honymoon at Yellowstone, but refused to help her and her husband out, after the husband gambled all of their money away.Her husband wasn't found.

There was also mention of a ranger that was sent to check up on an island, well to look for trespassers anyways.

He came across somebody dressed in clothing from the 18th century or something. Β He thought he saved the person from drowning, but the person he had rescued was actually a ghost. Β And, like all ghosts the drowned man faded away, which greatly spoked the ranger. Β He later said something like, "Yellowstone don't give up it'sdead." Β There was also a man that fell into a geyser and survived. Β I think there was a story about a US president surviving thirty-seven days at Yellowstone before he was rescued. Β Might give you some ideas for a story, it's from the same bpok 'Spooky Yellowstone.'

Sounds harrowing, especially about the one with the ranger.

Yeah, I have heard a lot scary stories from my mom. She told me her own mom threw knives at her and her mom, my late maternal grandma nailing cats to the wall, due to the saying, "Cats have nine lives."

Those scared me as a kid, even now since I have a cat. I was also scared by 'Pan's Labrynth,' and a scene where a murdered ghost girl reenacts her rape by a figure that only she sees. All we see is something invisible picking her unconscious body up, carrying her to some cliffs overlooking an ocean from the murdered ghost's cottage and the invisible figure throwing the ghost as she regains consciousness and starts flailing off the cliffs and into the raging ocean below. There was also a girl jumping off of a school and into somebody's car in THE RAGE: CARRIE 2 and a scene where a diver comes up missing his lower body. My mom also mentioned her dog dying from an orange and white house her parents left her at; she said the bath froze up instantly as she prepared to get in the bath.

I like the textures you worked into this picture. It's a really dark picture for this sombre tale, but you also managed to work in a lot of contrast with the bright whites of the outlines.

The head of the slain knight is an interesting addition, just lurking in the gloom, but I'm not so sure that it actually works spatially in the context of the two crows. The legs and feet of the birds still seem like they were posed to just be standing on a flat surface; they don't seem to wrap around the contours of the head quite right. The first crow's right foot especially seems like it overlaps the space that the head is lying in. Perhaps a little more planning is in order to prevent this from happening in advance; if you draw the feet to interact better with the environment by grasping the toes around the curved surfaces, you can lend more weight and solidity to the subjects. They can look more "grounded".

But I like this, it's very intense with textures and some rather unsettling white outlines, which gives a lot of tension to the mood. Very fitting for such a dark ballad.
