and BUBBLES!NightmareMoon is forgotten as villain. and everybody seems to dislike Celestia for banishing her to the moon, and saving their little ponies and Luna(even though she has to wait a thousand years) from eternal night and darkness. So, why don't they just join together and watch all their little ponies starve and freeze to death shall we? Celestia doesn't mind eternal night, as long as it makes her 'sister' happy, and Luna? she's with them as well, but inside Nightmare Moon, all alone.. in the dark, nothing can save her from the dark..
*sarcasm*
Maybe there will be less hatred for Celestia if she didn't banish NMM, and Luna's probably dead inside Nightmare Moon.

I prefer theory that Nightmare Moon is Luna other personality, not corruption, and since Luna become Nightmare Moon because she wanted to be loved and respected, why would she want to kill her subjects ?
Nightmare Moon may be more violent and emotional and direct then Luna, but she is not stupid, I am sure she would stop her eternal night or use spell to make Moon shine almost like sun to keep her subjects alive, if there is anything, Nightmare Moon does not want to be lonely.

I agree about Nightmare moon is Luna's other personality, but i think the comic just change that, i'm not sure if thats canon.
As nightmare moon, she wanted to shroud the world in darkness/eternal night, no sunlight, and with no sunlight, no food, no warmth, no energy, the ponies will probably froze and starve to death.

Sorry I think the last part of my comment was a bit incoherent. I wanted to say that I think that NMM mentaility was., more or less 'you will love me, even if it kills you'. As I think that Nightmare Moon is the insane, corrupted second personality of Luna, she doesn't no longer recognizes/consider what the eternal night would do, as opposite to normal Luna who wanted just one very long night(and even a night that lasts 24 hours, would have some negative efects, on both the nature, and (much more) on the psychology of the ponies)

The comic is a bit ambigous about this, in the end the Shadow forces that seemingly were responcible for the transformation of Luna and Rarity, also were just corrupted lunar creatures. Also Nightmare Rarity told Spike that she considers herself a separate being from her normal self, so it seems to be something between corruption and split personality for both Nightmare Moon and Nightmare Rarity. I think that the pure "Nightmare Force" may be a nonsentinent energy corrupting energy, that that prays and personifies despair. As for Luna's/NMM motives, especialy 1000 years ago, I think she was in the begining jelous of love that ponies had for her sister, despite fearing the equaly hard working princess of night, and Celestia paying more atention to the ponykind's needs rather rather than her sister. Overtime it may had transfomed intro bitter grudge, and latter fullblown omnicidal insanity as NMM(the type of "you will apreciate me, even if you are dead!")

Backstory on what happened 1000 years ago in MLP is very poorly expected, sure it say that Nightmare Moon wanted to bring eternal night, and that Celestia banished her.
But just think about motive, Luna turned into Nightmare Moon to stand up again her sister and to be loved and respected, not to blindly kill every pony.
There was nothing mentioned about revenge " I will kill all ponies because they ignore my night ", so I do not buy " Luna go evil and want kill every pony on the planet because she is night, dark evil ", the only reason why we did not got more Luna in the show is because Hasbro decided that she must be evil bad sister and that children's would be afraid to watch her.
From what I saw in first episodes of the show, Nightmare Moon come back after 1000 years of banishment, but I do not see insane monster, I do not see Alicorn mad of revenge for banishing her to prison, she is regal, calm, focused on her goal, she knock out guards what attacked her, but not kill them.
When she discover that mane 6 want to get elements, she could just rush in and kill them, instead she take indirect actions what are meant to scare of mane 6 ( how long it would take Celestia to kill Twilight and her friends, Nightmare Moon did not wanted to kill any pony in the first place.
Also, I do not buy that Celestia got banished, because first off, should not it be long epic battle between sisters where Celestia is banished, instead she just does not show up, Nightmare Moon does not have any damage on her body, and Nightmare Moon arrive not long after the celebration start, not enough time to even face her sister, not to mention, it would be to big event to just happen off screen ( and if Nightmare Moon would beat Celestia so easy, why would she have problem with mane 6 ).
I just do not find Nightmare Moon lethal or evil or stupid, I do not buy that she would not know that food can not grown without sun, she had to have plan how to keep her subjects alive.

"To stand up again her sister" turning into something she is not was really unnecessary, she seems to be too bitter to talk about it calmly. (why would she stand up against her? what did celestia do)
you know whether she wants to kill anypony or not, we don't even know that, but like i said, its possible that they might freeze or starve to death
When did anyone said about Celestia getting banished? (i'm sorry i don't remember the stuff i said in the past)"She doesn't have damage on her body" what are you expect? blood?
I don't even care about my theory and opinion about NMM all that much anymore, she and along with Celestia and Luna are still a mystery, and i won't change your opinion on yours bout NMM
but we don;t even know that entirely do we?

Fun fact; Sweden had three months of near total darkness, it also has the highest suicide rate in Europe. As ponies live a warm, sunny climate eternal night would properly result in an all time high of pony suicides. Some hero Luna is.
I imagine Nightmare Moon is thinking "I really, REALLY didn't want this. Couldn't we fight for supremacy instead?"

Damn it! I said had when I meant HAS (I try to check all my comments but I still make the occasional mistake). Sweden goes though three months where daylight is six hours or much less every year as it's very close to the north pole, Sweden really doesnβt want the night to last for ever.
Yeah whether it's Luna or Nightmare Moon really dose depend on who you talk to. But I find it hard to believe that LUNA could force enthral night on subjects and still be a hero.

Well, she was very angry, and bitter then, and her anger had taken over and transform to Nightmare Moon.

I think it has something to do with the angle the planet is at to the sun.
Like I said their right at the top og the world. That far north (or south on the other side in the southern hemesphere) the seasons work differntly. Spring and Autumn are balanced, Summer is nearly all day and winter is nearly all night (that's when Swedes tend to start drinking hard, and if the drink doesn;t stop them feeling depressed some kill themsevles).
