Description
Category: PhotographyAfter a lot of umming and ahhing I decided to submit this after all - despite its shortcomings.
I can't pinpoint one work of art, one moment in time, or one photographer as my ultimate inspiration. For me, inspiration comes in a lot of shapes and forms. Moments, colours, little things... music, movies, pictures... every small thing around me inspires me. And my two muses (well a girl can't have just one

I've been staring at this photo for a while.. thinking about what to say
and oooh to all the dvds *
for amelie*
I really love how Mirka is holding the book.. I don't know, her arms are very well positioned to just cover the right amount of the cover but not too much Her expression is spot on too, showing off the makeup very well I must say
The variety of colours in this is great, I love how you've got all that inspired you, not just books, but everything from your dvds to a vase and your cushions lol all the colours and shapes just makes me stare at it for longer, exploring all the things you've put together for this shot
Would've been even greater if there was a bit more light on the left side so Liinu wouldn't appear so dark but I'm pretty sure you think that already and would love to have some studio flashes and better lighting
But the composition as always is fantastic, I love seeing what ideas come to you and how you pull it off -- especially cause you always do so well, and how dynamic your shots can be
nice one~!

Thank you, what a lovely comment.
In my opinion the lighting in this sucks big time. It was just too dark to get enough light from my set up. I hate the fact that I had to shoot in ISO800. I wasn't going to submit this because of the technical problems and am quite suprised people seem to like it so much.
Also, I wish I'd put even more stuff in there, there are annoying 'empty' bits.

lylianthe In reply to mnoo [2004-11-15 05:59:25 +0000 UTC]
I think the lighting could've been better on the left side mainly.. the shadows around Mirka are alright, especially around her face and she's lit up well, it's just towards the left when the light darkens and cause Liinu is wearing black, it seems darker. But you've done well with what you had!
ISO800 does suck but it's not too noticable on the 300D I don't think there's too many empty spaces, but as they say, the more you look at a photo you've taken, the more flaws you *think* are in them.. sometimes they are true, but I think your composition is good. The empty space isn't too noticable with the sheet you have underneath, but with too many things, it can seem overcrowded.
You've got a nice balance

I love this image ! I've created collage works for over 20 years and I
think you captured a composite of some of the things that inspire you in a
great way. The colors ( especially the blue satin sheet ) really pull this
image together. So does the way you've layed out all the objects ( in-
cluding the models [ muses ? ] ) so that they guide the eye thru and a-
round the full photograph. Favorite !

Thank you. Collage is really the right way to look at it. I think it could be even 'fuller' though.

ljo In reply to mnoo [2004-11-14 20:53:33 +0000 UTC]
You'd have to be careful tho if you wanted to make it fuller because at a
certain point the overlapping items become too heavy/too important.
There are a few spots where you might add something ....maybe very thin,
shiny "threads".....but that's about all. Again, I really love it just the way
it is.

A very symbolic piece. The composition is excellent. I took the liberty of dowloading it to my computer so I could examine the elements and flip it upside down (a task much easier than flipping my monitor, or standing on my head). The symetry is uncanny, Queen of Hearts ? Reminds me of playing cards. Alter egos, not in conflict, but in harmony with each other.

You know, I took it standing (on my toes) on top of this kitchen ladder thing, which was a bit traumatic, and I don't even remember which way I originally took it. I kept on turning it to find a way it works best.
