Description
Gordon gets to the Borealis only to find that the ship is already being contested. On one side the Combine and on the other Glados, who has developed a more mobile form and her own personal army. This is mostly my unrelenting desire to see what happens in the next Half Life installment mixed with my equally unrelenting love for these two characters.
Gordon does NOT like his personal space being violated.

It looks like he's holding the crowbar behind his back and is going to whack GLaD0S with it.

Valve wouldn't do that. Half Life is a much too valuable property to let stagnate. They may be taking their time with the third installment, but I'd rather them do that than put out somthing they don't feel is 100%.

Chell is a stubborn lab rat & created an overgrown potato.
Freeman is the person that built a butane tennis ball cannon at the age of 6 & caused the resonance cascade.
You wanna go toe to toe with the One Free Man? Nice Knowing you, GlaDos.

Mo8 In reply to DarylChin [2012-06-02 06:42:39 +0000 UTC]
Chell created a method of feeding humanity.
Gordon created a weapon intended to harm it.
I don't see how Chell made the inferior invention.
And for that matter how is nearly destroying the human race with the resonance cascade a positive thing? Not that it was really Gordon's fault. He hardly had any input in that situation except for pushing a cart.
I think if you swapped them, they'd still manage to do well in each others roles.
As for GLaDOS I don't think you should discount her either.

Of course not. My comment targets the situation of the image.
On a larger scale, Chell isn't inferior either. It's a way of me describing the omniscience of Freeman. Yes he may not be the one that created the event, but he sure as hell survived it & beat it. He's a theoretical Physicist for crying out loud, not a commando. You gotta give this man props.

It would be amazing to see the Portal and the Half-Life universe collide. So far they've just poked at each other's existence. But seeing Freeman Take on Glados and the Combine, and then maybe Glados eventually joins forces with him, or who knows. Would be amazing. I can't wait
But great work

Same her, same here. But I don't think she's even on the level of the Nihilanth. GlaDOS just doesn't have enough experience on facing an "experiment" that's well-armed, armored, pissed and actually _can_ be a threat.

Mo8 In reply to REV6Pilot [2012-01-09 07:03:03 +0000 UTC]
She's much more clever and malicious than anything Gordons faced though. She wouldn't be so tactless as to fight him head on without some sort of leverage.

REV6Pilot In reply to Mo8 [2012-01-09 23:35:25 +0000 UTC]
Much more clever and malicious? I don't think so, Breen was at her level until the end of 2 (remember how he kept Gordon on the run until Nova Prospekt, and practically used him as a traceable lead to find Black Mesa East?).
But I certainly agree with the second part.

Breen smarter and crueler than Glados? You're not selling me on that.
π: 0 β©: 1
REV6Pilot In reply to Mo8 [2012-01-11 20:47:19 +0000 UTC]
GlaDOS may seem absurdly evil in her manners because it comes out of nowhere, with no warning, and everything's dumped on your head at once. Meanwhile, you get eased into Breen's acts, seeing the results gradually.
Or do you seriously think selling the Earth to an interdimensional empire isn't smarter/more evil than simply emptying out an enrichment center with poison?
π: 0 β©: 1
Mo8 In reply to REV6Pilot [2012-01-11 22:04:49 +0000 UTC]
Breen didn't sell the Earth. The Combine overtook it in a matter of minutes. It was theirs for the taking. They just set Breen up as their puppet governor to placate the masses, like the Roman empire did with its colonies. He's not there because he's genuinely evil, he's there because he's weak and malleable and wants to save his own skin. He's delluded into thinking he's actually helping the human race by cooperating with the Combine. He tries to kill Gordon only because he thinks he's threatening his own survivability and the survivability of the human race. And even when he captures Gordon he doesn't automatically kill him, he tries to get him to see "reason", gives him the chance to work for the "right side". If he really felt genuine contempt for Gordon he certainly wouldn't make him an offer like that.
On the other hand Glados stews in this poisonous rage that she exudes through passive aggresive behavior. She kills thoughtlessly and without due reason. She delights in suffering and tormenting people. Leading them on. Making them think they are within reach of their goal, and then snatching it away. She KNOWS she's lying. She KNOWS she not helping anyone except herself. And whats more, she isn't being threatened into that position. No one is making her do these things. These are her choices, her own concious decisions. The fact that the scientists at Aperature had to create dozens of cores to try and subdue her natural disposition and STILL failed is a testament to her hatred and will power. She isn't weak or malleable like Breen. Even the morality core only slightly dampened her hostility. Given the chance I think she would willingly take out every living thing on the planet in the name of "science".
In the end its their motives rather than their body count that speaks more to their character.

You are dismissing GLaDOS is in control of a huge facility and has technology way advancing his suit. also I would like to see what would happen if un-authorised equipment goes through emancipation grills like Gordan's suit and weapons maybe (leaving him defenceless and weapon less).... also she can deploy neurotoxin and turrets at will.
Oh and I doubt a crowbar can even dent something that can go 3000+ Celsius and keep working normally.
Hell GLaDOS can even construct androids and make clones which would probably stop Gordon in his tracks.
So if you pit Gordon against GLaDOS my money is on GLaDOS
Why did i write this argument up? Because I was bored

Master-of-the-Boot In reply to applejuice724 [2011-10-09 05:02:23 +0000 UTC]
Gordon's a smart guy, don't underestimate him. A veritable genius and he did face down the combine who only had the resources of an entire galaxy at their beck and call.
So, I don't see why Gordon couldn't rip open a few pannels with his crowbar and sneak into the back works where Chel and Wheatley took out the Turret production line and the neurotoxin out of comission.
The only time i'd be really worried about Gordon is if Wheatley tried to help him out.

applejuice724 In reply to Master-of-the-Boot [2011-10-09 05:53:19 +0000 UTC]
You make a very valid point
It all comes down to if he can get past the
1) clones/androids that GLaDOS can un-doubtfully can make (if she is got smarter then before she should have better security measures after the facing Chell)
2) turrets and any other technologies that GLaDOS may have because come on if she has a portal gun there must be other more efficient weaponry in her arsenal then knock over able turrets
3) Neurotoxin (no description needed )
4) can actually get to her or even find her in the huge facility and if she doesnβt replace her rocket turret's with normal bullet firing ones, hell she could line her walls with the things.
5) Emancipation grills because if he tries to go through it he will probably have near zero to no chance if he doesnβt quickly get another armour suit and another weapon.
6) The facility itself also poses a problem too she could set up traps and use a crusher on him if he is not careful.
7) Who says she canβt just make a laser barrier around her lair? Or a force field around her that doesnβt allow anything to go through?
8) Because GLaDOS and black mesa live in the same game (I think) then she could also use the infected and clone them into an undead army which might stop freeman (he won against them before so I donβt think this will win the battle alone)
9) Air: the fact that she can just suck the air out of the room or stop pumping it back in may cause problems for freeman if he doesnβt bring a oxygen tank
It would be an interesting battle but there is a difference between the combine and a sociopathic AI that controls everything in a HUGE base, advanced technology and will stop at nothing to see you dead.
and yes i would be worried too if whealty tried to help freeman in this battle

And I thoroughly agree, it must.

Personally I'd love to meet her on the Borealis. It be amusing to hear her commentary on yet another destructive mute screwing up her plans. Plus I'd like to hear someone cut into Gordon a bit. The man nearly causes the end of the human race and nobody seems to hold it against him.
