Typically a rough sketch (sometimes no bigger than a penny [easier to detail that way, for me at least ]) that I then scan and run through Paint Shop. Just build it up line by line, using one lengthways angled line and one across over and over, with curved vector sections between them. Most of my work, such as alterations and final detailing, takes place in PS. I try to draw up the actual shape of the say, the fuselage, and then work out where components on the other side would be
