Description
Remember that pic in my scrapbook I did a concept piece for, involving my original character Melisa engaging April North, the Mae West caricature from that Popeye short 'Never Kick a Woman'... Well a deviant member paid me a commission to actually draw it out.Long in short of it, April was picking on Melisa and her friends and family, even violently and maliciously beating up an older friend of hers during a match. So Mel decides to give April a piece of her own mind, much to everyone else's worry, April then mocks Mel but Mel mockers her back, so eventually the two agreed to a fight in the ring. Again to everyone's worry, if only because Melisa bit off more than she can chew here.
I was actually gonna take a break from boxing since well I already drew plenty and while I don't mind it it's still not one of my favorite sports, but being paid $45 bucks for it how could I say no. To be frank, April is a character who I have some trouble drawing, in terms of drawing her facials as well as her hair style, plus filling in color for her clothes, mouth, and eyes; and I still need to work on bruises though)
So yeah looks like this is actually going to happen! Let's hope Mel can hold on her own.

Another brilliant depiction of April.Β You do capture her massive muscularity, her arrogant, bullying attitude, and her wide-eyed, smiling, flirtatious hyper-femininity.Β Melissa looks fit and tough and not as feminine as her muscular opponent, but she has surely bitten off more than she can chew.Β Great start - April pops Mel with two quick blows to the face, just hard enough to show Mel she means business.

Julias: @ Raven and Scythe: Boxing isn't about strength, it's about discipline, patience, and respect. That much I do know about the blasted sport. *says while watching the fight*

Me: @ Julias: Easy, now. Everything you say is true. ThoughΒ that being said, April's off to a bad start.
Scythe: *thinking* The old crow's right on that one.

Julias: @ Both: Of course, but all those things I mentioned... April's got none of it! She's a bully through and through, and as foolish Melisa is for challenging her she is right to stand up to her. For if there's one thing I for one can't stand it's a bully.

Scythe:Β @ Julias: You and me both.Β After joining the school team, a couple thugs tried to pick a fight with me. I told them only in the ring.Β They called me chicken, at first, but after they saw what I could do, they backed off.

Bobby: @ Scythe: I've been friends with Melisa ever since Gym Class, and we've been training ever since. She's one tough cookie who knows how to strut her stuff!
Julias: @ Bobby: Look, Mel's athletic I'll give her that; but if she can't stop April... who else can?!

I'll be rooting for April to knock her cold.Β Nice rendering of the face and general look as a lifelong fan of April Β and her cartoon.

Hell no! I wished April had finished Olive off for good. I'm not for underdog stories when it comes to women fighting. I like the better woman winning! We had a club at Yahoo for years that had thousands of members just on this cartoon. It was big enough that we had 4 clubs. The majority wanted April to have won big and no spinach. There was a moderate sized minority who were for the underdog, but it was a minority.
Most of the members loved April's self confidence, powerful build, boxing skills, and look far more than any desire to see a comeback vs a bully. Most liked the bully and I do myself in fantasy female fights.
You got the hair and face of April pretty close. Well done!

Hmm, I see. Guess I'll have to pit April against someone who's just as tough if not an underdog.

Depends what you or your requester want. There is a bigger market for April winning than her losing or an even steven type fight. Her appeal was her dominance to most. There is a smaller market who may want her to lose and perhaps you are in it. In the many remakes I have seen...I've never seen an even fight. April always wins and some have no comeback or April getting the spinach and destroying Olive (pretty popular theme) or have Olive getting spinach as in the original. Some also had Olive growing muscles instead her just getting fired up and staying skinny as in the original.
Popeye was all smiles after April knocked out Olive. Olive goes after Popeye in the original for that.

I saw it. Thanks for letting me know. I'm not a fan of seeing April lose to an inferior foe. I'm sure there are some who are.

I'll keep an eye out for it. You draw a nice April, especially from the waist up. Very close the original in the face and upper body.

Also, speaking on her behalf, Melisa doesn't take it kindly to being called "Inferior" lest they get a sock in the mouth to prove otherwise.
