I've been working on this for a while. I'm 92% happy with it, I just can't seem to find that extra 8% to push me over the edge.Thank you to for the cool pic.

looks really well done (Hell, I'm still trying to figure out how to morph things well).
The only thing that looks a tad off to me is the color on the base of the tail on the left.... I mean, your stuff is always solid, but I just wanted to mention that to you

I think your main issue is with the planning of where your tail is going to be. Here are some things you need to think about when doing a tail.
Where is it coming out of? The end of the spine hopefully. Doesn't seem like it in this case.
Does it move away for towards the camera ever? It also doesn't look like it here, but that's fine, as long as you keep the shading consistant.
How would the Tail sit? For instance, would it curve? Where? Why?
Should there be a shadow? If the light scource is from the front, there might be a shadow you have to put in.
I don't usually do this, but I want to show you a WIP of mine that I started last night that has been planned pretty well.

I used the pen tool to get that shape. The shape of the tail is very important. It touches the ground streight of the bat in this case, and kind of slithers along it in a very shallow S shape. I also have some basic shadows thrown on there for fun. Those are about 3 layers with my airbrush. On top of that, I also feel confident I chose the correct place for the tail to be emerging with the back.
