Description
This was a drawing I wanted to do for quite some time, and thanks to the recent announcement of Kingdom Hearts 2.8, which will contain the sequel to Birth By Sleep's secret chapter, I was able to finish it.As you can see, I dediced to take a realistic and much darker approach than the original chapter to represent Aqua's journey through the Realm of Darkness. I tried to portray in a simple way how I perceive that hostile and dark wasteland, where only fierce fights are the key to survive and where you cannot be at peace any second. I also wanted to show how part of those ten years Aqua spent in that hell changed her quite a lot for the worse, being forced to clash against hordes of Heartless all by herself. I know, time flows differently in this realm than the other, but still I've prefered to take this twisted perspective. After all, that's how creepy I see the ominous Realm of Darkness.
Such a long time since last time I did a proper artwork, or so it seems to me. And good practice for dark effects too. This picture also works as tribute to Kingdom Hearts itself, my second favourite franchise since I was a kid, as well as my favourite character, such a tragic heroine.

Éste era un dibujo que he querido hacer desde hace un tiempo, y gracias al reciente anuncio de Kingdom Hearts 2.8, que contendrá la secuela al capítulo secreto de Birth By Sleep, he sido capaz de terminarlo.
Como podéis ver, he decidido tomar un enfoque más realista y mucho más oscuro que en el capítulo original para representar el viaje de Aqua a través del Reino de la Oscuridad. He intentado representar de forma simple cómo percibo ese yermo hostil y oscuro, donde sólo las luchas encarnizadas son la clave para sobrevivir y donde no puedes estar en paz ni un segundo. También he querido mostrar cómo parte de esos diez años que Aqua pasó en ese infierno la han cambiado a peor, estando ella forzada a luchar contra hordas de Sincorazón por si sola. Lo sé, el tiempo fluye de manera diferente en este plano que en el otro, pero aun así he preferido tomar esta perspectiva retorcida. A fin de cuentas, así es como de espeluznante veo el ominoso Reino de la Oscuridad.
Sí que ha pasado tiempo desde la última vez que hice un artwork en condiciones, o eso me lo parece. Y buena práctica para efectos sombríos también. Esta imagen también sirve como tributo para Kingdom Hearts en si, mi segunda franquicia favorita desde que era un niño, así como para mi personaje favorito, toda una heroína trágica.

I cannot ay how much this really adds to the character of Aqua and overall feel of BBS, it literally shows the proper feeling the Game should give off.

Gotta agree with you about Birth by Sleep being the darkest (and saddest, plot-wise speaking) of all game until now. Man, just looking at this secret episode and thinking about Aqua's situation just give me the chills! The reason why I portraited that feeling in a darker, quiet more twisted way. Of course, just a fan's personal vision. By any means this should be official; it'd destroy all Kingdom Hearts' essence, for sure.

My sentiments exactly.
Aqua's been stuck in the Realm of Darkness for over ten years constantly fending off heartless in a land that has no light and probably nothing to eat and where any moment of rest could be an invitation to death. Oh and time operates completely differently in the Realm of Darkness which means that Aqua will have no idea that she's been fending for her life for 10+ years.
As I explored in my "Thrones of the Four Pillars" story, Aqua will be freaking estastic when she finally gets back to the World of Light and is able to have a good nights rest without fearing for her life and will be very tearful to even see starlight, much less the sun itself.

Yep! I'm kinda curious to see how is she going to react once she gets back to the Realm of Light. I can imagine a very dramatic and touching scene, and depending on how she manages to get out of there, it'll be a very happy moment in the franchise. But we'll have to wait until then. For now, we can only speculate and think about poor Aqua struggling to survive every second, on that land shall darkness prevail and light expire... By the way, thanks for the fav!

Voy a ir empezando a comentar chascas, aunque sea uno al día XDDDDD He querido empezar por este porque lo he visto y ha sido un TUF en toda regla.
No conozco a esta señora, más que nada porque apenas he jugado al Kingdom Hearts 2, quedándome en el principio. Pero bien es cierto que ha sido leer la descripción para ponerme un poco en situación del por qué del dibujo, y se me han puesto los pelos de punta... ¿10 años en un sitio así? O_O Me cago en diox, qué puta desesperación. No tengo ni idea del por qué, pero tío, pobrecita esta señora! Me ha llamado mucho la atención, y me han dado ganas de intentar retomar la saga.
En cuanto al dibujo, me encanta la ambientación que tiene, y da todo el mal rollo con todos los sincorazón de fondo. Muy bien conseguidas las heridas que tiene Aqua por todo el cuerpo, y te ha quedado genial la sangre que cae sobre su mano (que sé por experiencia que no es fácil de hacer). También destaco cómo te ha quedado ese chapoteo en el ¿agua? por la parte del pie, el cómo has hecho las gotas que son hermosamente casi esféricas. Me encanta el tono de piel que le has puesto, es realista pero a la vez dota al dibujo de más tetricidad (eso existe??? XD) si cabe, con ese tono tan oscuro y a la vez algo rojizo.
Quizás lo único que me choca del dibujo, y es un detalle mínimo ante lo guapo que es, es la forma en la que coge la espada. En cierto modo, me gusta porque parece que está ya hasta los huevos de todo (como bien refleja su cara, que se le nota el cansancio y la agonía que tiene que estar pasando, fetén que te ha quedado) y la coge ya sin ganas, pero quiera que no se me hace rara esa postura para llevar la llave. Y ahora me fijo en los "cristalitos" que están cerca de su llave y de su pie derecho... ¿qué son?
Sea como sea, mis felicitaciones, porque es un dibujo genial que por mucho que miro siempre me pone los pelos de punta tío... Es que... ¿10 años así? Me cago en tó...

Pero mujer, no te revientes sobremanera con lo de los comentarios. xD Aunque te doy las gracias por empezar con éste, y que te haya fascinado.
Efectivamente, esta mujer lleva atrapada en este reino sombrío diez años. No obstante, según el director de la franquicia, el paso del tiempo aquí difiere con respecto al resto de mundos, por lo que a lo mejor en nuestra concepción no lleva tanto tiempo. De todas formas yo me lo he tomado de manera literal y he querido reflejar, de manera más gráfica, lo que sería estar atrapado en un yermo completamente oscuro e infestado de Sincorazón. Supervivencia en estado puro. A mi desde luego se me pusieron también los pelos de punta cuando le pasó esto. Obviamente el enfoque original no es tan dramático, pero aun así sigue siendo de las partes más oscuras, sino la que más, de la franquicia hasta la fecha. Yo por estas cosas te animo a retomar la saga, sin duda, y más ahora que va a llegar a su fin (al menos esta parte que el director denomina como Saga de Xehanort).
En cuanto al dibujo, quería hacer un gran énfasis en la oscuridad en si. El Reino de la Oscuridad es un lugar oscuro (valga la redundancia xD), y yo he querido hacerlo todavía más para que resulte más tétrico si cabe. Para ello apliqué colores oscuros, y por primera vez usé un "filtro" oscuro en todo el dibujo para oscurecerlo más aún. Y a riesgo de perder algunos detalles en la sombra, he conseguido casi en su totalidad el efecto deseado. La sangre por otra parte me salió un poco de casualidad, y cuando vi que quedaba bien dije "ya está, no toques nada más que te lo cargas". xD
Con respecto a lo del agua, creo que te refieres al camino en si. En verdad es de tierra, como arena extremadamente seca y sólida, y lo de alrededor pequeños montoncitos que sobresalen de Aqua hundir con fuerza su pie al arrastrarlo y la llave al usarla como bastón (de ahí la extraña forma con que la sujeta, pues usa el objeto como apoyo para seguir adelante). Lo de los cristalitos es un efecto que sale en el juego cuando el personaje se mueve, como si saliera de la propia tierra. Es un detalle trivial en verdad, pero me llamó la atención cuando lo vi y quise reflejarlo (yo y mi manía por los detalles, ya sabes xD).
Y como regalo, para que te hagas una idea de cuán tétrico es el Reino de la Oscuridad, te dejo tres temas musicales que reflejan muy bien su naturaleza (uno de ellos te sonará, de hecho):

Me daría coraje pensar que en el juego original lo han suavizado, la verdad. Tengo curiosidad por verlo, pero me parece que me va a gustar mucho más la visión que das tú en tu dibujo, así que estoy por quedarme con esa y fin... XDDD
Vale, es tierra... no sé por qué, pero me pareció agua totalmente, un mundo de estos típicos que tienen como una capa de agua, en plan que no te hundes pero que es como caminar por el agua, no sé si me explico... XD Y no sé por qué, pero no había caido que la postura era usando la espada como bastón, y mira que me fijé en el detalle de que la espada tiene su marca en el suelo... Estaba lenta cuando vi el dibujo, ¿eh? XDDDDD Es que por eso me pareció rara, creía que la iba arrastrando, pero me parecía una pose rara para arrastrarla (ya que en ese caso lo suyo es que estuviera detrás de Aqua y no delante). Qué pifia por mi parte XDDD

Es un simple fallo de visión, mujer. Al contemplarlo como agua de base, ya luego todo lo demás cambió automáticamente para verlo desde ese enfoque. Para que tú veas las jugadas que le hace a uno la visión. En cuanto a lo de Aqua, siendo Kingdom Hearts está claro que esta parte está más suavizada, sino Disney se habría reventado a Square Enix. xD Ésta es mi interpretación personal en base de las sensaciones que me transmitió el Reino de la Oscuridad cuando lo vi por primera vez, con matices más propiamente oscuros y lúgubres. Aunque aun así te digo, la versión original también tiene su mal rollo de por medio. Ya no sólo por la música, sino por pensar eso, que Aqua lleva ahí atrapada la tira de tiempo, perdida sin rumbo.

Indeed! Even implying that, were not for Aqua catching Ventus after that, he'd have shattered into pieces on the ground. Still, all this bloody mess here would be too much. I can imagine Square Enix putting this in the game and immediately being sued by Disney over one thousand times, to say the least.

Por suerte yo también he podido disfrutar de la saga desde niño, y he sentido nostalgia al ver el dibujo, de cuando terminé Birth by Sleep.
Esta Aqua de pelos largos te ha quedado impresionante, con ese estilo tuyo característico ha quedado genial cómo la has dibujado, y me encantan esos colores, y la cara de agotamiento que tiene ella.

¡Gracias, buen hombre! Yo lamentablemente no he podido jugar al juego, ya que con la mala manía de Square Enix de sacar un juego por plataforma me quedé con las ganas tras acabar Kingdom Hearts II. Pero aunque no haya podido disfrutar de la parte del capítulo secreto de Aqua, verlo fue suficiente para transmitirme esos escalofríos al contemplar por primera vez la naturaleza del Reino de la Oscuridad. Suena trocho, siendo un juego de Disney y todo eso, y que obviamente no tiene un enfoque tan oscuro como otros muchísimos juegos. Pero yo me lo imaginé así y me dio mal rollo, de ahí este dibujo en el que he intentado plasmar esa visión en Aqua, que menos mal que en el juego no es así, sino nos la veríamos como una nómada salvaje en el Kingdom Hearts III como mínimo. xD

I love your dark, somewhat twisted and ominous take on this. I can totally imagine Aqua going through this, fighting to stay alive every minute of her life in the darkness.
I especially love all her cuts/scars and how you made her hair long, having grown out after all the years that have passed. And the fact that she's still holding onto her Wayfinder

That's what I tried to capture in this image, how much Aqua had to deal with in the Realm of Darkness in a darker way. Of course, there's no way it's gonna be like this in the upcoming 2.8 game. Still, I'm surre she'll be holding onto her Wayfinder as you remark; after all, it's her token of hope in such a place.

Oh yeah, I don't think they'd ever go for something this dark, but that's why I love this! I can imagine the Realm of Darkness being a very unforgiving and cruel place, so I really love how put your own spin on it by making it darker(especially since it wouldn't ever really be this way in game haha).
Oh I know, I imagine that she'll never let it go since it's all she really has there... And even though Ven and Terra aren't really themselves right now, I like to imagine they have their Wayfinders as well

We may have seen this if it was a Final Fantasy game, but after all, is no more than a fan's interpretation. Still, pretty creepy the official Realm of Darkness. As for the Wayfinders, I'm sure Ven still has his own. But I don't know what to say about Terranort... Dammit, so many questions left that I hope Kingdom Hearts III will resolve once and for all!
