Description Taken at Camp Butler Cemetery, In Springfield Illinois.

Although there are unknown soldiers in this photo, some of the known ones had to be blurred out. When i asked the director of the cemetery for permission to shoot (merely out of common courtesy as it is public property) he informed me that if any names of soldiers were depicted in publicly shown photography I would be sued by the government over privacy issues. He then drove the intimidation home by saying the government has thousands of lawyers. I agreed to blur out any names, and even left with his secretary the link to my website. But it was all worth shots like this and about 4 others that i got in the cemetery.

18mm, 6s, AV 3.5, taken just after dawn using an unconverted Canon 350d Digital Rebel XT with an R-72 Infrared Filter.

Hope you enjoy!

Framing is for display purposes only and Will Not Be part of the final print

lol ... here read this. You have to change white balances and do long exposures and.. well... its a process. here read this. one of my favorite artists just posted it. And if you have any further questions let me know. I have still yet to master it myself. [link] I follow basically the same process as him.. only I shoot raw and digitally change my white balance. I have not tried it his way but it might just be the better way to do it. if you try it let me know.

This is wonderful I love the angle that you've used to capture the scene. It always makes me sick to my stomach to see so many gravestones over such incidents, like war. Great shot though

wow. so at first i thought this was the cemetery by my house here in Hampton, Virginia.. we have one that looks exactly the same, and is also for the unknown + known. I always thought it was cool how they line up in different angles.

Nice shot. IR photography is so surreal.

Have you looked into photographers rights? Sounds like the cemetary director hasn't...In the USA I believe you can photograph anything you want from public property as long as the main subject isn't a person who can be identified from the photo... then you'd need a release form.

this is beautiful, i can't even tell that anything is blurred but i'm sorry you had to go to so much trouble haha...the stones are lit up amazingly, i can't imagine how you achieved that.

infrared filter... they make for some awsome photos! they are around 30.00 usd on ebay. hoya or opteka either or they do the same thing, if you decide to get one let me know and i will help you with post processing. also if you cant shoot in raw it might make it a little hard but i still think i can walk you through it.

filters are pimp man, you need to get a low end filter pack that comes with a polorizing filter, a uv filter (basically a lense protector) and a florecant(sp) filter, they are only like 30 bucks. but i paid almost 40 for the IR. they are a great investment for unique photography.
