Isadora the Sphinx, from Wildbow's latest web serial, Pact: pactwebserial.wordpress.com/ca…She works as a professor of ethics at the University of Toronto, but her magical powers let her transmogrify herself into a human shape. which is a shame, really, since it would lead to some hilarious situations if the students had to deal with a ferocious monster of a teacher. (As opposed to regular university professors, who are usually quite sedate monsters.)
(And yeah, a Sphinx wouldn't normally have a human torso with arms, but Wildbow's version is somewhat more D&D Lamia-esque; Isadora might be a half-sphinx, since her dad hasn't been mentioned yet.)

1) It's a quick way of adding highlights and creating the impression of a slight blush, same as you might add to a person's cheeks, or:
2) Because all the cool kids are doing it.
