EDIT: PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE COMMENTING.Okay, so, I've been getting a few comments about Donnie liking April and the such..... GUYS, THIS IS THE 80'S CARTOON, NOT THE 2003 ONE. Don does not love April, and no other possible love interests from the second series exist in this one (including Karai). Honestly, I can't even see how it's confusing, since Kala, Lotus Blossom, and Mona don't even appear in the 2k3 show. -_-
........ it never fails, does it? i mean, i'm not even all that into tmnt couples (shocker, right?), yet i STILL make pairing art of it. D:
haha, anyway, all the canon pairings of the old toon. I think they're all pretty cute. for those of you who don't know....
Michelangelo is paired with Kala, a Neutrino from Dimension X. He had a couple other crushes or whatever, I believe, but Kala was definitely the most prominent. In fact, out of all the turtles' love interests, she appears the most.
Leonardo is paired with Lotus Blossom, a ninja for hire basically. She was originally hired to kill the turtles off, but ended up switching sides. Sort of. Haha, I love this pairing, mostly because lovesick Leonardo is one of the most adorable things ever. XD I mean, the first thing he says when she speaks to him is "She's magnificent!"..... Really, Leo? The girl just kidnapped your sensei and challenged you to a fight, and you're swooning over her? XD
Raphael is paired with Mona Lisa, a college girl who got turned into a mutant. Ironically, this pairing is actually rather popular (at least compared to the other two). I mean, Mona Lisa only appears in one episode, and then mysteriously disappears. It's such a small appearance, yet she has quite a few fans.
And poor Donatello never got a love interest of his own. It's all right, Don, you can always "do" your machines as always. 8D -shot-
Ah, well, this was pretty fun to make. maybe i'll draw a new toon one, just for kicks.

X3 I'm working on her origin story. She starts off human and is mutated, but her mutation causes her human consciousness to deteriorate, so the turtles try to catch her, and Donny uses a sample of the ooze that created them on her, bringing her intelligence back to normal. She stays with them, and it turns out she's a bit of a grease-monkey. XD She even out-nerds Donny once!

I wouldn't be surprised if they did; I've heard they're going to lean more towards the 80's series. Honestly, I'd love to see revamped versions of the old characters, so I'm kinda hoping they'll do what the new comic book series is doing.

I might get bashed for this but I always assumed Donatello was supposed to be portrayed as gay in the 80's cartoon (don't get me wrong, I LOVE Donatello, he's my favorite turtle) but I remember reading somewhere that the fact that he wears a purple bandanna and didn't show interest in females was because Donatello was gay but still "in the closet". Don't ask me to give a link to the website I read it at since it like 5 years ago.

Maybe he's just really not into romance? Maybe an attraction towards an opposite gender/same gender doesn't stimulate him as his wacky inventions? Maybe it never occurred to him? Maybe he wasn't emotionally mature enough to get one?
BTW, this isn't bashing towards you, Kanna, it's just a strange assumption to label him that, is all.
Also I think 2k3 Don compensated for that, that's for sure...

I dunno, I actually kinda like the idea that he is gay. Gay guys are more sensitive and open than straight ones and a girl can talk to them as easily as they talk to their female friends. A gay guy has no problems talking about fashions and cute guys and stuff. I should know, I have a gay friend and he is always easy to talk to. I can't talk as honestly to any other friends.

That's actually a theory I've heard a lot. I'm certainly open to it, but a little more reluctant to believe that was the intent of the show's creators, simply because it IS an old children's cartoon, and I don't think they were consciously putting undertones in. Or maybe they were, what do I know? Either way, it's an interesting idea to think about.

In the 80s cartoon I kept expecting them to pair up Donnie and Irma, although except for a very mild hint in one episode I don't think that ever went anywhere...

Of the Old Toon, Mikey and Kala was definitely my favorite. I always thought they were the most fleshed out. You're correct, the Old Toon had Mikey have several crushes but I think he really showed the most affection for Kala. The fact his brothers could tease him about her ("Naw, we're just good friends....." "Suuuuure you are. Like Romeo and Juliet.") said a lot as well, methinks.
Mona and Raph had potential as well. I wish we had seen more of her. She left raph at the end of her only episode which to me always left me wondering if she'd make another appearance. Sadly, it never happened.

These are pairings that appeared in the 80's cartoon; you're thinking of the 2003 cartoon. The 80's one didn't have all the same characters (like Karai), and the turtles were only friends with April.
