XD Aww, there was this guy in my class a long time ago, who's colourblind but he's in with the cool crowd. He painted all his stuff pink in woodwork accidently, and everyone was sniggering but not telling him. So I kinda edged up to him and said, 'You know that's pink, right?'. He looked down, and replied: 'FUCK.'. He proceeded to grab some mucky brown colour, said, 'What's this?', to which I replied, 'Brown', and then he nearly poured it over everything.

And no worries, I really love your work. Have you read Snuff yet? Can't wait for your fanart (the thought you wouldn't do anything is absurd).

Haha i've drawn so many green men thinking they were skin colour it's ridiculous :/ Every five minutes in my art course i'm like "That's red, right?" and they're like, no, that's violet..." I feel his pain And yes!! I do have a few drawings in the works!! Now if only my teachers would give me five minutes to myself i'd be able to complete them..university's intense How've ya been?

Eeep- at least it gives your art a unique touch. And yeah, I can imagine- all work and no play, huh? And wait- have you finished Snuff? Or should I censor this conversation of spoilers?

'Cause school starts at the beginning of the year here, we're in that huge end-of-year/state exams rush and sorting out subjects for year 11 and everything. And the motivation has really left me for doing any study or work for classes I'm not taking next year. For example, mathematics. Screw maths. DB I'm much more into history/art/english.

ARGH! I keep forgetting you guys would've gotten it weeks ago! I just got my copy on. . . Wednesday? So I just finished yesterday. And wow! Jeez, that's a LOT of sketching. What's GCSE exams? And how does your schooling work, too? Ooh, nice selection of good subjects there.

Hahaha, you're the strange ones! Everything coincides with the beginning and end of the actual year, except for the business year.

So you do pre-school (I mean regular, 5-days-a-week stuff) at the age of 4 (turning 5 that year). Then you hit kindergarten (primary school is K-6, usual age 5-12) at the start of the next year (so during kindy you'll have your 6th birthday). Next year is Year 1, where you're 6-7, Year 2 (7-8), Year 3 (8-9), Years 4, 5, and 6 (11-12). Once you're in year 4 you're usually thought of as being in the senior half of primary schools. It's not separated as such, though.

Year 7 you begin at High School, and it goes on till year 10 (I'm here- I turned 16 in October). In year 8 you choose 3 elective courses to take over 9 and 10. So instead of doing a bit of graphics, Visual Arts, Japanese, Italian, Wood Work, etc, you choose 3 faves and continue with those. English, Science, Maths, History, Geography and Physical Education (one class of PE and one class of theory- 'health' a fortnight) are all compulsory. After 9 and 10 you begin the next years as a Senior (years 11 and 12). Seniors go to the same school, but have unique timetables as you choose all your subjects (although English is the only one you MUST do, you can choose Standard, Advanced and even Extension classes) and don't do things with the rest of the school 'cause you only come when you have classes (this means a lot of early days, half days, late days, etc). You have to choose at least 6 subjects, at least 12 units. Most subjects are 2 units, and extension subjects add an extra 1 unit to a class- it's just a way of counting. At least one of those have to be an english. People usually don't go over 13 units, not many do 14 and you might get one crazy every few years in the whole region who'll attempt more than 14. I'm currently looking at 15 'cause I'm doing Japanese Continuous (I've been doing it as an elective) with the Open High School- basically they'll send me work parcels and I'll keep in touch, complete them and send bits back, do assignments and go to the campus for exams.

Primary school you're in the one class with one teacher (every year it changes depending on your results). You have a different teacher for each subject in high school, and different schools have different amounts of periods a day. Many have 5 period days. A day at my school goes 8.30-9.00 is Group (homeroom), then you go straight to Period 1 (each period for us is 1hr 15mins). After Period 1 is recess (20 mins or something) and then P2. After P2 you have Break (5 minutes to get from one class to the next) and P3. After P3 you have Lunch (40 mins I think) and after lunch Period 4 then at 3 classes are over and you can go home.

Now, seasons go like this in a year: Summer (Jan, Feb), Autumn (Mar, Apr, May), Winter (Jun, Jul, Aug), Spring (Sep, Oct, Nov), Summer (Dec). This means Summer holidays are about 6 weeks long, lasting from around 20th December till the end of January nearly. There are 4 terms, 2 semesters. Each term is about 10 weeks, sometimes you get 11 weeks in a term. You have Term 1 (usually full of assignments), then 2 weeks holiday in which Easter usually is included, then Term 2. At the end of Term 2 you have half-yearly exams, and then you get your half-yearly or Semester 1 report with your marks and everything. Then Term 3 (assignment-full), 2 weeks break, then Term 4. Term 4 is like Term 3, exams then report and awards ceremony for 1st-3rd places sometimes. But in year 10 you have School Certificate, and that's state wide and only 'core' subjects- not electives. You do separate, school run elective exams. Keeping in mind Australia's size, each state runs everything slightly differently, according to their Department of Education.

At the end of year 10 you graduate school and get a certificate saying you've completed years K-10. You can leave and do TAFE (do you have TAFE?), change to another school where perhaps your classes won't clash, leave to pick up an apprenticeship or work full time, or stay on at your high school to get an ATAR. Once you choose classes you get a senior uniform and a unique timetable. You have the same Term and reports system. But in year 12, Seniors graduate at the end of Term 3, and use the 2 weeks holidays and the rest of their time to study for HSC (Higher School Certificate) exams. You only come to school in Term 4 for those, and you get your certificate at the end of the year and an ATAR. You're ATAR is a mark out of 100 that is made out of the marks of all the subjects you did- kind of like an average from your HSC results. You need an ATAR to get into University, really. Different courses require different ATARs. Medical courses require ATARs of 97+ I think, and the Ancient History course I'm looking at requires 85+.

Summer holidays encompass Christmas and New Years- Christmas is kind of the final big thing that happens every year, and then you go nuts and throw parties on New Years, staying up till midnight and if you're in Sydney lots of people try to watch the fireworks display over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and I think the Opera House lights up. It's pretty fantastic, and you can see the fireworks from pretty far away. Then you start the year with nearly the month full of Summer. So we're used to warm/hot Christmases. To think you'd have some titchy little few-days-off thing for Christmas and New Years is really weird! For us it's like you're celebrating all the way back to school. Unless, of course, you have to work or you're a parent or whatever. Remember that this is just from the perspective of a kid from Sydney.

Um. Sorry, I just realised I've been writing that for a while- I can get lost in thought easily. I don't mind it if you can't be bothered to read it. Well that's awkward.

Egads! The world has turned on it's head :S Summer in december?? Haha i already knew that obviously but it's still a bit weird for me to think of it like that There are similar aspects in Britain really. You start school in primary at 3/4 (I was 3 cos I was the youngest..) then go on through year 1 when you're 5/6.. then year 2,3 and get into year 4 (8-9) the only difference is we go to a different playground as far as I can remember...

Then we go into Comprehensive (or secondary) school in Year 7 (11-12), then year 8 and 9 follow (you have to choose your GCSE (general certificate of secondary education in year 9) You start your GCSEs in year 10 (14-15) and do two years of coursework/revising until exam finals at the end of year 11 (15-16)...So i'm right in thinking that's were you are at the moment?

Usually at this point a student can leave school and go into a college to do their A-levels (Advanced version of GCSEs) or start working...these days it's more common just to do your A-levels in the same school in Year 12 (16-17) and 13 (17-18), we usually call them 6 formers and we stay in the same secondary school but we get a new uniform and a lounge to ourselves Plus we can skip the line at dinnertime muahahaha..

So, that's it basically, we finish our GCSE exams in year 11 not 12 but apart from that its pretty similar, we then go on to do a course in university (I want to go to do Illustration but have to do a years course on Art foundation) chosen by the amounts of UCAS points you got in your A levels (usually an A is 120, B is a 100 and yadda yadda).

The school terms here are September to December, January to March, then March till July (although Year 11 and Year 13 finish in June because of exams). The major holidays are Summer holidays (July to September) and Winter/christmas holidays (December to January), there are a few half terms (usually 1-2 weeks holidays) in a few places.

hahahahaa revenge for sending me an essay Yeah I got mine on the first day of release back in September! I shant spoil it for you

Wow, that's so weird! And yeah, so to you I'm at the end of year 11, and planning my A-levels.

Woah, what the- I forgot you have, like, cafeteria thingy's. And school dinners?? Strange, strange people. We bring lunch and recess, or you can buy food from the canteen, but there's no indoor cafeteria or anything. My friends and I usually sit around one of those wooden picnic tables at the side of the oval under the trees for lunch.

I guess most things would be indoor in Britain. Only our library/computer rooms/classrooms are indoor.

Ah, yes, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! Here, as a forgive-me present here's a short Pratchett Discworld story you might not have seen: [link]

Nah, don't worry- I finished Snuff a few days ago now. XD

Whoa, we don't do anything outside unless we really really need to... too much rain damnit! You know how Britain is and all that! It's basically castles and mountains :S

Ooh a discworld novelette how intriguing! How did you find snuff then?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

totally-not-crazylol In reply to Monkey19934 [2011-11-12 10:59:09 +0000 UTC]

XD Heeeey, how come you know my age and I don't know yours? You could be the same age as my brother...

Okay, weird. XD Geez, I can imagine- when i was last in Ireland visiting my mum's side we went to quite a few castles. There aren't any castles here. Not to mention 'cause we're in the middle of the Asia-Pacific plate it's not like the continent's had much of a chance to build any serious mountains, so there's the Great Dividing Range and that's really it.

I love the UU faculty. I found it quite strange, as we only followed Vimes around for the most part, when usually we follow several characters around in knotted plotlines. But I loved the story and how Sybil fixes everything. You can tell Pratchett's been a husband for many a year, because he bring out all the typical husband-wife everythings. Like how Sybil warns Vimes when he's about to be very crude, and the Looks exchanged, etc. Reminds me of my parents. And you?

Haha XD I'm 18! In university now aren't I? I'm shure i've mentioned this

Lol yeah doubt they have many proper castles over there Or proper decent welsh mountains like we have back home! (imagine me saying this in a strong welsh accent!) I get queasy when there's a horizon in front of me :S haha.

Yeah, I didn't really find it the typical watch novel either...We're seeing much more of the small bit that is Vimes out of work (I.e. Sybil, Young Sam and Willikins) than in other novels...I love that discworld feels so real now, like time is really passing (Young sam is like 6 now!) There was a lot of character evolution going on there definetly The whole thing was a totally different experience and I liked the whole concept of the goblins. It was a shame we didn't really get to meet our villains (Young Rust and the Board) and I feel the murderer (cant remember his name now) could have had more depth...

WHOA. wrote a lot this time :S apologies in advance!

XD After checking out the Snuff fanart that was in my devs folder, I realised that while i love your style, I hadn't gone through your stuff. So my apologies for spamming your activity section. But through deviant stalking you doing that, I know you, Tad, are 18. BD I really hope your name is Tad and I'm not retarded. Geeeez, university at 18? Strange person, anyone here going to Uni would finish high school at 18 first.

LOL, nice. I get queasy too- the Sydney area's really hilly in comparison to, eg, Melbourne which is flat and was actually planned out as a city (the roads are like a grid D.

Yes! Dammit now I can't remember his name (Stratford? Maybe?) but I think I rushed through the book a bit 'cause I was so excited about a new Discworld novel. I always have to read a good book a second time, same with movies. I get scared at Lord Rust getting very old, because you must remember Vetinari's about his age and he won't live forever. . . The thought of him not running AM is frightening.

Whoops, you think that's enough to apologise for? Uh, sorry about the whole conversation, nearly all of my replies have been ridiculous! Here, watch this to ease your pain: [link]

Got some family in Melbourne as it happens haha we need to visit them sometime...

I know right!! It will be an interesting twist won't it Society coollapsing and whatnot..I wonder what it'll be like, or if Terry will live long enough for that to come about

XD I always have about that many messages, but it doesn't really count when most of them are from the one person, and the few others are replies on endless comment threads between me and, for example, you.
My name's Kiri. Geez, my older brother's turning 21 in January, and he has friends up to the age of 23 that I see regularly because our house seems to be the HQ for his nerd gatherings for D&D. XD Or just having gaming sessions.

. . . Are they Greek? XD Did you know, Melbourne has the third largest Greek speaking population for any city in the world? That's why there are souvlaki shops everywhere. (Pretty much meat kebabs.

I honestly believe Terry would never kill Vetinari. He doesn't kill off many characters, and the mayhem would be so great even he'd have a hard time writing accurately what would happen to AM. Well, I guess since he's the writer anything he writes would be accurate. . . Terry better damn well live long! D:< I would probably cry for weeks if he died. And I don't cry much.

Yep, I thought you'd like it! Thank you, kind sir, for those kind words. *wiggles moustache*

Kiri? Is that short for anything? Like Kirilicia? Kiristein?...Um, Kirillington? I've ran out of ideas :S Yeeah it's still really weird though. 20 seems like such an old age for me! and it's only 2 YEARS AWAY! aaaah!

Haha I think they're British i'm afraid Wow...I just kinda imagined you all as australians, didn't really think that there'd be greeks and whatnot

Yes! We need as many books out of him as possible XD the Alzheimers is going to be in full swing soon I'd definetly cry if he died...D'you think he'd leave it to another writer to keep the discworld running?

No, it's just Kiri. XD Is Tad short for anything? Like Tadson? Taddles? Tadrick? Okay, I think I can understand your issues now. Hey, you'll grow into it- SEE WHAT I DID THERE OHOHO-

Ah well, British is cool as well. XD Yeah, Australians are rare in Australia in some places. There are many Europeans and Asians.

Hahaha, yup! I love his books so much I would live there if I had the chance. Oh no, no no! My heart would break and I'd die from a lack of oxygen circulation! But I dunno, I can't see Pratchett leaving it to another writer, and I can't see his fans accepting another writer. But there would be a LOT of fanfiction.

*Twirls cane and adjusts monocle* well indeed I was in Venice It was pretty immense...There are no cars anywere, everyone walks through the beautiful cobbled streets or goes by boat taxi! It was amazing! You could take a random photo and it would look amazing, seriously! The food was incredible and the atmosphere and..and..Aaaah! I wanna go back! I would genuinely consider moving there if I could actually speak italian! :S

Oh yeah, and the pigeons there...don't mess with them, they're mean biches XD

Oh belive, every joke about my name has already been done :S Although I welcome you to try! muahaha

Yes, I do believe i'm guilty of some of that fanfiction, as terrible as it is If I materialised randomly in Ankh Morpork, the first thing i'd do is climb the tower of art, then maybe harass Rincewind for a while You?

8'D Awww, it sounds fantabulous! I really wanna go... ;;;3;;; Photos? Are you gonna upload any?

Oh gods, what did you do to find that out? XD

Nah, I think I'm done. I can make some pretty fanTADulous jokes.
(OH GOD THAT WAS HORRIBLE.)

I think every Discworld fan has thought about this one. I would, in my strange other-worldy clothes, trek it up to the Palace and request urgent audience with Vetinari (assuming I materialised when he's Patrician). I'm pull a Moist Von Lipwig and grab a bit of paper and try to look important. Then I'd explain to Vetinari that I'm from Roundworld and there Discworld is complete fiction and we need an immediate meeting with the UU faculty. See, you have to remember that if you showed up just after the, eg, Music With Rocks In incident you'd know the future. You also know everyone and their secrets and pasts. So I'd negotiate maybe a room at the UU, payment and protection. I'd think Vetinari would agree, just out of curiosity, honestly. I mean sure, he could kill me. But I'd probably be more valuable to him alive.

Yes, I've over though this. XD I daydream sometimes very fast.
