Matt and Mello at the 11th hour before their sacrifice...
This is a congratulations/happy birthday/get well soon present for the immensely talented fan-fiction writer and fellow Near hater:
She has a birthday coming up on the 10th and will be entering the hospital for a procedure soon afterward, so everyone should go rush her page and show her some major love!! She also just celebrated her 6,666 kiriban so congrats to her! And, if your not reading her fanfic, The Story of Matt and Mello, where the hell have you been?! Go read it NOW.
This piece is kind of dark for a congratulatory piece, eh? I apologize, but it is just the space where my head was at is all.

The skull in the mirror is the icon from the official Death Note (I referenced it from a pic on DA but can't remember whose I used....I will try to search through my browser history and credit later).
I fucking never want to draw feet again as long as I live! I drew them backwards, not once, but twice!
While doing this there was a lot of running back and forth to the mirror to lock at my own back and the bottoms of my feet. This is my first try at some perspective and a seated position. I also added noise for the first time, which I have been wanting to do with a piece for some time.
I'm going to post a detailed shot of Matt and Mello before the added noise and lighting effects, because a lot of detail gets lost with the final composition.
I am brand new to this, so suggestions are always welcome.

omg this is soo good. the hands and the feet are the worst things to draw in my opinion. if i get lazy i'll just put it behind their backs or out of the shot. as for the feet, i've been doing them in shoes, but L doesn't wear shoes so.

Yeah, I usually hide the hands and feet too. LOL. also love drawing Matt and Mello because googles (in Matt's case) or long hair and sunglasses (as with Mello) mean that you can also get away with not drawing eyes, which are the other bane of my existence.

i always make the eyes different sizes or different places. the detail is ok but where it goes and how big it is isn't. so i usually angle them when i have them different size or places. goggles would probably help the size and placing of the eyes for me. kind of like training wheels ^ ^ and you deserve it

*gasps several times in awe* That is absolutely beautiful. The atmosphere is so dark and melancholy... I think one of the best parts of the MxM fandom is the period of time before Mello decides to sacrifice himself for the case. Makes me all depressed but I love it.

I agree 100%, that is my favorite part of the DN story as well. Mello's sacrifice is tragic, but it is noble and inspiring at the same time. *sigh* Now, I'm getting all depressed too.

I really felt that atmosphere of love,fear,death,... the strong courage to reach the most important and dangerous goal,and the desperate desire of what could be the last time together....and the sadness T^T--->GEEZ cause i'm too much in love with those characters
You may haved some technical difficulty to make it(i know feets are PAIN to do XD) but the message had come flawless and strong

I.. I really can't express how beautiful this is. It's so raw, so emotional. I love the way Matt's hair almost seems to blend with Mello's burn scars. It's that kind of grotesque beauty you know? The kind of horror that's worth fighting for.

Yes, Mello and Matt's death was so unfair, but I think their sacrifice is what endears me to them the most. You can say they were the most selfless characters, in addition to Cheif Yagami, in all of DN. Even though Mello was arrogant, he had his priorities straight in the end.
And yes, I hate the Near but not the Near lovers!
