Description FACT
PETA killed 86.3% of the animals in its care in 2004.

In June 2005, police investigators staked out a garbage container in Ahoskie, North Carolina after discovering that over one hundred dead animals had been dumped over the course of a month. [42]

Police observed PETA employees Andrew Benjamin Cook and Adria Joy Hinkle approach the trash container behind a grocery store in a van registered to PETA and dump 18 dead animals into it. Thirteen more were found inside the van. The animals were from shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties, where they were going to be euthanized with gas - PETA picked them up to euthanize them by injection, which is considered more humane. Police charged Cook and Hinkle each with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. These were dismissed on 14 October 2005, and 25 felony charges (22 of animal cruelty and three felony charges of obtaining property by false pretense) brought in their place. The latter charges are based on PETA having euthanized three cats from an Ahoskie veterinarian after allegedly promising to find the animals new homes [43])

Newkirk condemned the dumping of the animals, but noted "PETA has never made a secret of the fact that most of the animals picked up in North Carolina are euthanized." [44] According to PETA's own filings with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 86.3% of the animals in its care in 2004. [45]. Similar filings for the Norfolk SPCA shelter, located 3.5 miles from the PETA headquarters, show that the Norfolk SPCA killed fewer than 5% of animals in its care. (PETA has pointed out that the Norfolk SPCA refuses to take in stray and unadoptable animals so they can continue to call themselves a "no-kill" shelter.) PETA has defended euthanasia by arguing that there are far more unwanted dogs and cats than there are good homes (millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year in the US) and that euthanizing dogs and cats is more humane than leaving them on the street or putting them in a cage in a shelter for the rest of their lives.
wikipedia.org

PETA has also been accused of targeting "vulnerable or emotionally sensitive" groups, particularly teenage girls, and was ordered by Great Britain's Advertising Standards Authority to discontinue claims it made about milk consumption in a campaign targeted at school children.[32] The ad featured trading cards with statements such as "Sue's milk-drinking led to her battle with zits." Other cards claimed that dairy products cause obesity, belching and flatulence, and excessive nasal mucus build up. In response to the ruling, PETA modified the cards to address the Standards Authority's regulations. wikipedia.org

PETA is a multinational corporate, with no morals or ethics. It claims McDonalds uses bad practices, when the animals PETA saves, are dumped behind grocery stores, it gases animals to death to save money; and tricks school kids with lies about milk!

Gee, guess I'm an asshole then. My wife and I rescued a dog, had her spayed and gave her a loving home. She's been with us for five years now and will be with us for the rest of her life. And we'll do it again! And the reason we have only one dog is that while she plays nicely with other dogs, she prefers to be the only dog in the house.

I'm not sure what you are contesting here?
Rehoming dogs is a good idea.

This is a parody of a real advert to show that there can be a darker side to even our most pious corporations.

If you would like to frame your comment in context I will reply!

Monkeychris, I was being sarcastic. I got angry when I read the above article and I tend to get pretty sarcastic when I'm angry.
As for rehoming dogs, all sarcasm aside, I'm all for it. That's how my wife and I got our pooch. She was six months old and already was a mess mentally. Took a lot of training but it was worth it. The only reason why we're not getting a second dog is that our pup is too territorial. She plays nice but when another dog approaches us (wife and I), she gets extremely jealous.
I have no regrets and this has been a very humbling experience. When the time comes, we'll do it again.
As I mentioned below, sorry for the wrong impression.

Hey dude, sorry for the slow reply. Every electrical item I own has broken. Maybe this is a sign I should spend more time getting messy with paint again?

I'm a bit quick to jump on people over this piece due to the argument with PETa I had right back when I released this when I was still very much a kid. I guess it brings back memories of being threatened by a grown man over the internet!

Great work with the rescue - we need more people like you!

I was being sarcastic when I made my comment ChibiCyndaquil. I was very angry when I read the above article and remember reading some pamphlet from PETA that owning pets was cruel. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression.

In all seriousness, I am glad my wife and I were able to save our dog. When the time comes, we'll do it again. And we also got the dog spayed so that we are not contributing to the problem. I often urge people to go to a shelter for their pets. We've had our dog more than 5 years now and she's a real sweetheart.

You didn't give me the wrong impression at all.

That's bery nice to hear.
My current dog came from a breeder who made sure that the puppies were going to a loving home.
My previous dog came from an abusive home, we took him away when he was 5.
He lived a good 11 years with us, but we had to put him down because he had too much fluids in his lungs, and he was too old to get an operation.

When I'm going to live on my own, I want my future pet to be from a shelter.
I don't care how old it'll be, I want to give it a nice home where it can spend the rest of it's live being loved and taken care of

dazdn In reply to Airenu-ish [2012-02-04 00:51:58 +0000 UTC]

That's great and my condolences on the loss of your previous dog. And yes, there are breeders out there who care where the puppies go to. I know someone who got a puppy from a breeder who had her sign an agreement on some conditions (care, neutering etc) and apparently, the breeder followed up.
Rescuing our dog has been very challenging, rewarding and humbling. When we first got her, I thought I knew a lot about dogs. Well, I was set straight on that really quick! Again, no regrets and we'll do it again. Our pooch is a real sweetheart and most of her quirks and little habits have been the source of many laughs.

To add, it really hurts to think how someone can really benefit from having a pet and an organization that claims to love animals would rather kill them and dump them like trash. Damned waste.

Oh I don't just take your word for it, PETA is an awful backward organization, they target good animal research labs that treat the animals right and adopt the animals out after experimentation. They target common citizens that own pets, they set dogs free from back yards, houses and runs. But something that makes me even more mad was that they are bashing colleges of Veterinary Medicine for doing unnecessary surgeries on healthy animals; those surgeries are necessary for future vets to save lives!!!! And the animals leave unharmed (the dangerous surgeries are done by simulation or under very strict supervision.
Not to mention PETA themselves kill animals!!!! They can't get more hypocritical than that! Oh, wait; they can... one of the leaders of PETA uses insulin, which wouldn't even be known if it weren't for animal testing!

PS sorry for the rant lol

So..... you got all this information off of PETA Kills and Wikipedia? That's....... -___-;;

Not that I support PETA. I think a lot of them are either radicals, illogical, or decent people who don't know what the heck is going on with the group.

I'm just saying that you can't really take all this stuff as legit, 100% truth. It's like taking something someone said on some forum as the gospel truth.

Maybe it is true, maybe it's not. Maybe it's blown out of proportion. Who knows?

Hi there people.
First off as my signature says I am Vegan. and I dont support PeTA.
First things. PeTA claim that there are so many abandoned dogs, yet did you know a percentage of the animals they kill are still peoples loved pets stolen from gardens etc? Yes it is undeniable the amount of animals abandoned across the board is highly sickening. 70% of these animals would find a new home. But then again PeTA want to stop people having animal companions so euthenasia is the only option for PeTA to start their "progress"

Apparently milk is the most common allergen known to man - apparently (dont shoot me here) - so i can understand where people are coming from complaining about milk consumption - and be honest -its from a non-human tit. urgh *shudder* (i am lactose intolerant by the way)

ALF - have their heart in the right places. But funded by PeTA their judgement has been clouded. I do NOT agree with animal research - the only way farward now is tissue cells and human voulenteers (scuse my spelling). In this day and age with so much technology, so much animal welfare awareness animal testing should be made obsolite and alternatives funded to replace it. (70% of perscription drugs are removed from the market yearly because of different results via testing on animals). I digress.
ALF need to reconcider where they lie with things. Protecting animals - they say - then releasing a non resident species into a eco system not able to cope. Very animal rights...urgh

I dont know any more. I am vegan for my own reasons, I rescue animals on my own back and I support charities like The Dogs Trust (look them up they a UK charity and they NEVER put a healthy dog down). Im not gonna flame some one for eating meat, i just hope that people aknowledge where their food comes from and respect that the chicken on the plate was once as animated as you or I.

sorry for the lecture x

I couldn't agree more-- they kill so many more animals than they save. Why? Because it's so much kinder than making the animals live in a world run by cruel, cruel humans. I could rant about this for hours on end, but I'll just leave it at this:

This is a wonderful piece. It looks like an actual counter-PETA ad, and really should BE one. It's clean, effective and gets the point across. Great job!

i get your point btw dont get me wrong, but not all humans are cruel, and if an animal has a chance for a new life - shouldnt we all take that opertunity with open hands and welcome the cat/dog etc into our hearts and homes? (i have a rescue dog and many rescued rodents and birds)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

fireweed15 In reply to SugarPlumPumpkin [2010-05-02 22:23:12 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know that not all humans are cruel to animals-- my parents spoil their German Sheppard positively rotten-- and I fully support adopting rescued animals. I simply point out the irony that people pour countless thousands of dollars into PETA's pocketbooks, under the impression these animals will be adopted out to happy loving homes, only for PETA to turn around, gas the animals so they can use more of their money for their own devices. They have good ideals but the ideals have become so warped I don't think PETA and other animal lovers are even in the same book, let alone on the same page.

The only thing I would give PETA is a piece of my mind.
My parents buy their dog toys... They feed her McDonald's cheeseburgers, the little ones you get in a Happy Meal. -_-;;;

I knew that much. It's amazing... How can you head an organization that supports animals (however extreme and tweaked their methods may be) and NOT like animals? That's like asking someone who doesn't like kids to run a preschool-- 404 Logic Not Found.

There's a reason PETA has to euthanize many of the animals it rescues. [link]

As for the dumping and crap, you can thank the CCF and their smear campaign for that. CCF has made at least three anti-PETA sites, because CCF is supported by the meat and tobacco industry, who of course don't like PETA.
