Description
FACTPETA killed 86.3% of the animals in its care in 2004.
In June 2005, police investigators staked out a garbage container in Ahoskie, North Carolina after discovering that over one hundred dead animals had been dumped over the course of a month. [42]
Police observed PETA employees Andrew Benjamin Cook and Adria Joy Hinkle approach the trash container behind a grocery store in a van registered to PETA and dump 18 dead animals into it. Thirteen more were found inside the van. The animals were from shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties, where they were going to be euthanized with gas - PETA picked them up to euthanize them by injection, which is considered more humane. Police charged Cook and Hinkle each with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. These were dismissed on 14 October 2005, and 25 felony charges (22 of animal cruelty and three felony charges of obtaining property by false pretense) brought in their place. The latter charges are based on PETA having euthanized three cats from an Ahoskie veterinarian after allegedly promising to find the animals new homes [43])
Newkirk condemned the dumping of the animals, but noted "PETA has never made a secret of the fact that most of the animals picked up in North Carolina are euthanized." [44] According to PETA's own filings with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 86.3% of the animals in its care in 2004. [45]. Similar filings for the Norfolk SPCA shelter, located 3.5 miles from the PETA headquarters, show that the Norfolk SPCA killed fewer than 5% of animals in its care. (PETA has pointed out that the Norfolk SPCA refuses to take in stray and unadoptable animals so they can continue to call themselves a "no-kill" shelter.) PETA has defended euthanasia by arguing that there are far more unwanted dogs and cats than there are good homes (millions of dogs and cats are euthanized every year in the US) and that euthanizing dogs and cats is more humane than leaving them on the street or putting them in a cage in a shelter for the rest of their lives.

PETA has also been accused of targeting "vulnerable or emotionally sensitive" groups, particularly teenage girls, and was ordered by Great Britain's Advertising Standards Authority to discontinue claims it made about milk consumption in a campaign targeted at school children.[32] The ad featured trading cards with statements such as "Sue's milk-drinking led to her battle with zits." Other cards claimed that dairy products cause obesity, belching and flatulence, and excessive nasal mucus build up. In response to the ruling, PETA modified the cards to address the Standards Authority's regulations. wikipedia.org
PETA is a multinational corporate, with no morals or ethics. It claims McDonalds uses bad practices, when the animals PETA saves, are dumped behind grocery stores, it gases animals to death to save money; and tricks school kids with lies about milk!

I also think milk is disgusting, but simply because of what it is. Urgh.
However, the link Peta proclaimed between milk and heart problem has been heavily contested global by acclaimed academics and health organisations alike. Infact, Peta have faced legal action over these claims.
The hormone issue is slightly more pertinent but I haven't the time to really look into it to make an argument for either side!
Thanks for dropping in on my work and leaving an interesting comment!

i'm not a fan of peta at all, but can we honestly expect a huge corporation under the guise of a nonprofit to be honest and good? it just really sucks, because they're the forefront politically for the animal rights movement. and then vegans get horrible stereotypes from it.

Peta take in animals, they don't breed them. That would be really sick breeding dogs just to kill them...
I think I get the sentiment you are putting across though and I agree that there are many people
who take animals on as a pet, stimulating the demand for breeding, when they are incapable or do not
have the ability to commit to looking after the pet. This should obviously not happen, in an ideal
world, but it happens with our children too. People have them who, for whatever reason, are unfit
to look after them. The use of support networks for people in these situations, where they cannot
cope, with children or pets, exist in some places but not many. The solution is not to stop these
people from having pets or children, but to educate them on how to become responsible and empathetic
to the needs of who they care for, human or animal.
Bah, I replied with an essay. Who can ever shut this big, angry mouth up.

But what pisses me off about Peta is that they claim to love animals yet they don't give the pets chances by putting them in shelters.
They're too busy bitching about how people shouldn't eat cows.
Well, that's what I think.
I agree with your opinion though :3

The the updated for either 2007 or 2008 is 99% kill rate for PeTA. I forget which year exactly. You can see for yourself on vdacs. Try googling vdacs and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. There's a section which lists animal shelters (Funny, PeTA keeps saying they are not a shelter but keeps taking in animals and is considered an animal shelter in the state of Virginia. That is where PeTA's HQ is) in the state of Virginia. Gives you all kinds of information: Adoption rate, euthanasia rate, wild animal taken in (other than cat/dog), neutering/spaying, dead on arrival or died of natural causes at shelter, etc.

Personally.....YAY!!!!!!! I raise live stock with the FFA and PETA is just a pain in the ass radical group! They hide behind their camera's and are so busy pointing fingers that they don't realize they are doing no good besides making themselves look like idiots, which saves the rest of us some time in proving them to be one. XD Itβs also true that PETA bought a large walk in freezer which they stock full of βrescued animals.β The animals they either βrescueβ or βadoptβ from shelters are euthanized because they think animals would much rather die then be someoneβs pet. The fact that they say animals are todayβs slaves and they use the slogan βHolocaust On Your Plateβ shows how many brains cells these people really use in every day occurrences. Iβve been harassed by PETA puppets at the fair and have been asked, βJust look into their eyes! They trust and love you yet you will sell them like a piece of cloth so they can be butchered alive and then devoured. You cannot have a heart!β Yea, thatβs why in the big snow storm that overtook a large portion of Colorado last year PETA refused to take food or water to cattle and day old calves that where starving and freezing to death. Their fight was that βwell whatβs the point in exhausting our resources for them when they will just end up on someoneβs plate 4 months down the road?β If they are the people for the ethical treatment of animals, I really cannot see how letting an animal freeze to death is ethical. With my closing words I say Vote No on Prop 2! Iβm not saying anyone has to vote Yes or No just voicing what I happen to be voting for because for 1, if Prop 2 is passed it will not become effective until 2015. It will cause a huge decrease in the price and sells of livestock. And all of those Prop 2 commercials are videos taken from the PETA website and most of the occurrences on their film wasn't even in the US. I know there are bad people out there but PETA is making the true animal lovers and hard working Agriculturist seem like the bad guys. Sorry for such the long rant ^ ^; I can get quiet animated about this subject ahah.

I know this is a million years old, I can't help myself. It never stops amazing me how people can talk around the questions without answering, changing the topic and diverting attention. Comments along the lines of "well, you eat animals so what do you know!" make these extremists seem like they're talking to themselves rather then the person they're arguing with. Trying to justify their own viewpoints by, in their minds, making the other person a bad guy. Not bad because they disagree with their stance on the issue, but because the other person enjoys hamburgers. It's pathetic.
As for the PETA thing, I don't like them. I never liked them, and I'm a major animal supporter. I work in a vet clinic. I've seen some of the horrible things people do to animals; it does not involve enjoying bacon. I've also seen numerous cases where the animal needed to be put down. Sometimes, it's inevitable, but for THAT MANY to be euthanized by one organization is ridiculous. It's not hard for a big time place like PETA to put out ads for adoptable animals: put them on pet finder, a radio station, a commercial- heck, why not their website!
While I'm sure there's propaganda from the anti-peta side (though much more reasonable propaganda), and I'm not inclined to believe everything I read, it's obvious PETA cannot be trusted. To be honest, it's ridiculous extremists like this who make me uneasy about referring to myself as an 'activist'.
PS. cheeseburgers taste good and always will.

How did I ignore him.
I presented links, quotes and full information of the resources used behind this poster.
That's why they didn't sue me for defamation of character, because it's true.
It's not only registered with the press, but the police.
I attempted to have an intelligent educated debate with the guy, but like so many people who can not provide
a solid arguement he defaulted to the stereotypical behaviour of somebody who cannot accept they are wrong,
which was to insult, swear and get angry. The inability to remain calm in a debate is a key sign of the inability
to accept you have lost, are wrong and have been out done at every turn.
I must reitterate that I do not condemn all of the acts of PETA as barbariac such as this, but merely try to inform
that there is always more than meets the eye when dealing with a faceless organisation, even a 'charitable' one.
