Nei, from Phantasy Star II, for Sega Genesis.

A friend of mine took a picture sitting on a rock in the beach, wearing bikini. It was not her exposed body that caught my attention (she had other more exposed picture in her album), but her pose, and the scenario around her. So I used her picture to base Nei's pose on. Why Nei? What better to replace a girl in bikini than another in a swimsuit?

I did Nei first, was only planning to draw and ink her Cleaned her trace, filled her with midtones (basically, just two colors for the whole character), shadow and light. But at some point I didn't get satisfied enough with just that, so I tried to draw the whole scene in 2B grafitti in another layer. I thought of placing a colorful purple Nei on a grey, sketchy background for the contrast. But then, I thought she looked so common, I was so tired of this purple/pinky look, and hell, I had done that before, where was the challenge? So I applied some photoshop filters on her and the scene, and I was surprised with the result. May not be a great work, not even my best one, I mean, you can see the character got a different treatment than the background, you can see I didn't thought first about her shadow on the rock (it's a rubbish pencil work done in photoshop), but I never felt so fond of one of my drawings to the point of making the wallpaper in my desktop.
