Description
Let me get something straight, I DON'T HATE FIRST GEN. But really, it wasn't that great.
All generations have their advantages and disadvantages. Really, I think nostalgia is the only reason why the first gen is praised so much.
Take a look at Flygon or Buizel, for example. I thought they were pretty creative.
With first gen, we have Voltorb, Electrode, Grimer, Muk, Mr. Mime, Seel, Dewgong, Goldeen... Just bleh.
Kanto did have some good Pokemon, though. Dragonite, Raichu, and Blastoise, to name some of my favorites.
The later generations have flaws, too. Gulpin, Swalot, Bronzor, and Bronzong, anyone?
Evolutions seemed too similar. All the starters don't look that different from their evolved forms in 1st gen, while and 3rd and 4th gen, I think they pulled it off well. They look similar that you could guess they were in the same evolution family, but they weren't terribly similar. Look at Mudkip, Turtwig, or Piplup, to give some examples. Not to mention Diglett and Magnemite's OH HEY NOW THERE'S THREE or Grimer and Voltorb's WE'RE BIGGER NOW WITH VERY LITTLE CHANGES.
Even the Pokedex was ugly. Take a look at the Kanto Pokedex . It has way too many buttons and overall doesn't look that convenient. Compared to the
Hoenn Pokedex or the Isshu Pokedex , well...
As for the regions themselves, a lot of the towns in Kanto were... same-ish. Hoenn was much more of a lush region with more variety. Each town had their own vibe and it felt like a new experience. A tree house town and a town built by a volcano? That's sure something Kanto didn't have.
To those that know me, I'm not being hypocritical. I've learned to like all generations instead of just following what everyone else's favorites were. lD
Again, this is all my opinion. Feel free to leave your own, but please, as I respect your opinion, please also respect mine and don't flame. I can understand you preferring it because you grew up with it, but sometimes it gets a little too far.
Oh, and as a random tidbit, this is coming from someone who has around the same amount of play time playing Red and Soul Silver or Platinum.

While I disagree with the fact that Voltorb and Electrode being listed as nothing good (and I respect that), I will make a point that Generation I led to all the other generations.
Sure Generation I has became overrated, but without it, there wouldn't be five more generations of Pokemon.
Generation I basically supports all of the Pokemon franchise. First-time games of a specific series often support later games of the same series.
This is because the firsts get the series started. If people love the series, then they make another game of that series, and it becomes popular.
Every generation does have its downsides. (Heck, everything has downsides.)
But it doesn't mean it sucks. I love Generation VI the most, but I also love the old games, especially Generation IV.
I will openly admit that nostalgia can have a bad effect on gamers. Not only will they stick to old games, but they will be hating on new games.

You know the irony? They hate on the game when it's announced.
When it comes out, they play it. WHY?

every thing has to start somewhere
i like the kanto region, but youre right, people tend to overly praise it because it was the first pokemon game they played
theres only like, 12 or fewer pokemon from kanto i would use in a team
and i have used them
as for hoenn....theres only a few pokemon i havent used in a team
i think ive used every single pokemon that would interest me to have in a team at least once
ive played sooo many different files on emerald its almost ridiculous
its because i just love all the hoenn pokemon so much! i eventually stopped using a starter in my team so i could have a slot for another regular just to try em all out XD and i agree on the variety of towns in hoenn, too
but i must say, i like swalot

I hate to admit this to people who disagree, but I love Bronzong. I have one in Black named Decibel that regularly appears on my team. Swalot is basically a well-dressed Muk, which I'm not too sure we needed. I don't like gen. 4's designs too much, as they aren't too creative either. Dusknoir is an obese Dusclops that's way overdressed. Electivire is a hairy sparkplug that is basically an Electabuzz, but bigger and with an extra tail. Magmortar is a Magmar that took WAAY too many steroids in enough lipstick to send Queen Elizabeth 1 reaching for the cold cream. Gallade and Froslass were great ideas, bravo, bravo. Chatot is a deranged parrot. Empoleon is a penguin in a literal tuxedo with a trident through its head. Ambipom...gives me nightmares.

Swalot is cool looking! But i get your point. I never always hate the designs. I ussually hate it when i first see it, play the game and love everything i love voltorbs face abd id probally use it if it fidnt have such a shit move pool. The only pokemon i ever had a problem with design wise was salamance. Ok its a...dinosaur? Then a escape pod? Ok now its a dragon THIS MAKES SENSE

the style of things and the level of awesomeness, more specifically it was at its peak at 1st gen. The adventure seen in the anime was at its very best in season 1&2 as ash kept switching out all of his pokemon every 2 seasons after 4th-5th to keep up with the new gens o.o'
anyways, they leaned more and more towards making this thing into a money machine after the 151, as you can see the pokemon get lazier and lazier in their design and concepts. A real "nuke" I use to convince that this is true, look at the 3rd gen legendaries, latios and latias they are exactly the same except their color.
Gary was awesome, because it was nice to actually have competition and not be treated like some random 2 year old who managed to get a hold of gameboy.... like the way they treat you 3-5th. My last comment is that, oh my GOD the music remakes of 1st and 2nd gen games (HG/SS, LG/FR) are just awful... they sounded real good with the crispness of the old sort of game.... Im sounding like an old man ~.o

I see where you're coming from. While the first generation Pokemon are not exactly creative, per se, I like them better than the new ones due to the more simple and natural look, you know what I mean? But I still love the second and third generations almost as much as I love the first.
I'm really glad you're not bashing though. As odd as it seems, people seem to bash on the first generation and those who prefers it just because of the OMG NOSTALGIATARDS. Like, for example, with some people you're not allowed to like the first generation more than the later ones, but you absolutely have to like the later generations or else you're a nostalgiatard.

they tend to feel superior and sophisticated because they make absolutely sure the world knows they like "the classics"
i check a website that has a section of just pokemon jokes ([link] ) and there's a constant, non stop flamewars between "genwunners" (people who are @$$holes about how 1st gen is so superior and anything past it isnt pokemon) and people who love all gens, ESPECIALLY 5th gen fans
my knowledge of pokemon stops at 3rd gen, as ive never had a DS, so i just shake my head and watch everybody argues

To be honest, personally I don't like looking back at the old generations
Is not becuase I don't like nostalgia or I hate the old Pokemon , is just I like the new Pokemon, cuase they look more insteresting and the more the merrier and I guess it would have been WAAY to boring to see 150 all the time.

I generally enjoy the games, and i do find pokemon that i still obsses about to this day, like my favorite, Mewtwo! and then theres Gengar, Tyranitar, Sableye, Sigliph, Zoroark and so on. But i still continue to find a fair share of pokemon i loathe. like zubat, Lickilicky, frillish and jellicent but most of all....
...Bidoof.... DX that damn bidoof has ruined so many of my chains that i forever hate it!!
btw, alot of people said conkeldurr was ugly..and he is, but im alright with that

What I really didn't like was when everyone was like: "TEH NEW POKEMONZ SUXS, THEY ALL LOOK LIEK DIGIMON "-when gen5 came out. :/
I thought many of the new pokemon were very creative and I liked how they took a whole new perspective on it. I thought it was interesting with no more Zubat and Geodude in
every single cave. -just my little opinion on it...

But I happen to like that Magneton, Rapidash, Machoke, Ho-Oh, Blastoise, Swellow, that ice cream cone, the ghostly chandelier, the fire sumo pig, and that pigeon Pokemon...
But shit like dragonair, charizard, mew, lugia, salamence, that fugly ass hydra, and those stupid lati need to die...
WHUT?
In other words, I agree with this in the sense that yeah, nostalgia isn't as great as people make it out to be, but at the same time, Pokemon isn't a "one size fits all" when it comes to the monsters. There are people out there that while yes, believe that their magnet orbs are probably the least creative thing in the book, they still like them because it's how those people are.

So, I'm not the only one who thought that Nintendo Game Freak's Pokemon is a great example of improving overtime?
Then again, it's nice to go nostalgia from time to time... but not always.
Am I the only one who mistook the Grimer for Ditto?

My biggest problem with the later gens is that the new Pokemon look kinda rushed. Sorta like Nintendo felt they had to create 10000 new Pokemon. The new ice cream Pokemon and the Regis come to mind.
While there were some meh early designs - Voltorb and Magnemite come to mind, most of the designs didn't look too bad. I don't have that big of a problem with the Pokemon that look like animals (like Dewgong or Goldeen) because I always picture Pokemon as animal-like.
Anyway... Just my 2 cents...

I totally agree. Some pokemon from Kanto (Eeveelutions, exeggcutor, venusaur) i thought were pretty cool. But like you said, a LOT of them were really boring, or just animals with fire coming out of various body parts (ponyta anyone?) or different coloration. And seriously, how is pidgey different from a normal bird? My order of favorite pokemons is Johto Sinnoh Hoenn then Kanto in last.
