Nice! He reminds me of some Qunari version of Hiccup, set in the world of Tokyo Ghoul .
I'm rather busy with Fly to Live atm, but at least now the idea for a crossover is out there, ready to be written ^^. Who knows, perhaps someone already has...

Cheers!

I looked up qunari, it's a species from Dragon Age right? I do know Tokyo Ghoul, really like the concept, reaaaally like the story, especially in the first season A crossover with httyd sounds EPIC, I would totallyΒ read that, especially if it's coming from you! I'm glad to hear you're busy with Fly to Live since I'm now through with it and I can't wait to continue C:Β

Thanks for the compliment x3

I liked the first season of Tokyo Ghoul too, but I disliked the second one so much, I dropped the anime. I've been told the manga is infinitely better than the second anime season though.

Unfortunately, I don't see myself writing any crossovers anytime soon, ^^' sorry. I'm shamefully late on my next chapter, and I'm also trying to draw the map for the next big city in the plot, and all I've managed so far is just a childish sketch :S. I'll just get back to work .

PS: Yup! Qunari are from Dragon Age, it's a pretty decent RPG (Inquisition at least is), though it's not my favorite. Also thanks for faving my rendering of Hiccup's shelter!

I'd also love to read the manga. I've seen a few pages and I've got to say that I really adore Tokyo Ghoul's drawing style, so that's a boosting factor for me aswell. Unlike most manga styles, this one has some sort of imperfection to it, which makes it more believable, at least to me.
So looking forward to reading your next chapter by the way C:

I've never played a Dragon Age game, hence why I asked^^ I prefer the gritty, realistic tone that The Witcher conveys. Played the 2nd and third and I really love them.

I do have Witcher 2 actually, but I've had some terrible frame loss issues on my pc, so I'm afraid I'll have to play it when I get some new GPU. Still, you are not the first to sing its praise, and I have very high expectations, though I usually tend to prefer old-style, third-person RPGs more.

By the way, I'm glad to hear you're all caught up with the story , so, as a bonus for complimenting it so often, I'll tell you that the next chapter is going to be titled "Link" .

I had the same problems on my old pc, I'd suggest to go into the game's video settings, there's an option that is said to be extremely graphically advanced and it actually only ran on the fewest pcs at the time. It's called 'ubersampling' I think. It's really worth it though, The Witcher 2 is a really great game, it has a very unique flair :>

By the way, it's great to know that there are people in the world who like httyd and mature stuff such as Game of Thrones or The Witcher, I thought I was weird in that regard :I

Β I assume it's about Hiccup's and Toothless' relationship...? Now that's bound to be interesting :]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Eretsonoferet In reply to MonoFlax [2016-02-09 20:24:50 +0000 UTC]

You must have some real monster of a pc to run ubersampling! As soon as I get a new GPU I'll be sure to try it, but I don't see myself upgrading at the moment ^^. I still have a shipload of games that I can and have to play on my system XD. As soon as I finish Inquisition, XCOM2 here I come! Then the new Divinity Original Sin, and there's the new Starcraft... there's no end to them, and very little time.

Anyway... It's true that there are very few people in the fandom who enjoy truly gritty renditions of the httyd story (which don't stumble into overly angsty melodrama and tragedy, at exactly the opposite side of the scale) . We are a rare breed, but it's not too surprising: HTTYD began as a kid's book. Nevertheless, there are still a few artists here and there who try the "mature" approach. Unlike myself, some are actually very experienced and talented writers. It takes me months for me to write half as well as some of them. Of course, I'm not going full on Game of Thrones with my story, but I love those books so much, it's obvious that there will be some influence. The fact that each chapter has a single POV was taken right out of Martin's books after all .Β

The "Link" refers to something more... practical. Something that Toothless has wanted to accomplish for quite some time. Something connected to Hiccup's mind .

MonoFlax In reply to Eretsonoferet [2016-02-10 19:54:13 +0000 UTC]

I don't even use the ubersampling, although my pc is of a fairly high standard, in 2016 xD I actually meant that the game is worth it, and that I'm sad that you missed out on it because your pc can't run it really well.

Exactly! You can see the way a majority of this fandom thinks if you just take a look at how they treat Toothless. Of course I love the incredibly well made 'puppy mode' which Toothless does all the time in the movies, but I feel like people tend to forget that he can be a real badass too! That's why he's just extremely serious or angry in a lot of my drawings, it's because I love the way he can just shift from one to the other in like a split second. Most people tand to only draw him as a kitten .-.
One of my favourite parts in the 2nd is the ending because it's frickin epic it shows just how intimidating that dragon can be. Afterall, he's a Night Fury, one of the, if not the most dangerous dragons there is. The part where Stoick dies is also a great example. Toothless can be really creepy, too, if you ask me!

You were making a few indications in that regard already... I must say, you got me interested C:

Oh boy... from what you are telling me I think you are really going to enjoy the events planned for halfway through the story . It's gonna be a while though ^^. Just as a taste, my profile picture is (supposed to be) a representation of what will happen around that time. Nevertheless, in some way, Toothless isn't the scariest being in my story... there is also a certain dragon trainer .
How about I get back to writing

I was thinking the same thing haha xD So Toothless is gonna have some 'boss mode' similar to the alpha state from part2? Ah, don't even tell me, I wanna be surprised x:

Until then I shall be waiting...

with patience

a lot of it :I

Anyways, I'm definitely pumped for the next part of your story! Β Β
No but srsly, take your time with this!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Eretsonoferet In reply to MonoFlax [2016-02-14 17:56:21 +0000 UTC]

No not a 'boss mode'. He won't be going berserk or anything like that . It would be a little too convenient, and I don't like to make it so easy for our protagonist . It's a slightly more complicated matter, although you are sort of in the right direction... but I won't say anything, since it's still too early for that . (I know, my story has a very very slow burn ^^)

That's good actually! I also don't like overpowered characters, so that's just good news! Anyways, how are you doing with the latest chapter? Any indication when you might be done? I'm not intending to push or anything, there's no rush, I'm just curious :>

Eretsonoferet In reply to MonoFlax [2016-02-14 22:45:53 +0000 UTC]

I just realised I've misread your previous message!Β Β Β Β Β When you said about 'boss mode', I thought you were actually referring to Hiccup, whereas you actually wrote "Toothless". That's probably because I previously talked about Hiccup ("a certain dragon rider") being scarier than even Toothless. Sorry. My mistake.Β

Toothless will indeed have it's canon alpha mode, but it won't be complete in this book. Let's say: not exactly. After all, he is glowing red in my picture, not blue. I was actually speaking about Hiccup, who (while not capable of going berserk or anything) will indeed develop some... preoccupying ability . I know it sounds badass, but it won't deviate from canon as much as it sounds. Still, that's all the details I can give .

MonoFlax In reply to Eretsonoferet [2016-02-15 23:23:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I was talking about Toothless... Now you got me interested... I mean Hiccup can't really have some supernatural ability right? Afterall the only real fantasy element that is confirmed is all the dragon stuff, so that seems really interesting to me actually

Eretsonoferet In reply to MonoFlax [2016-02-14 19:00:41 +0000 UTC]

Don't be afraid of pushing me. In fact I need it !

Still, as a non literary guy, I often reread paragraphs for an unspeakable amount of times, and thus I write very slowly. Some chapters are better than others, but this one is turning out to be quite hard. I have very high standards for what I read. I require it to be both interesting and pleasantly written (I may forgive lack of one thing if the other is abundant though), and I'm really vicious when it comes to mistakes or inconsistencies. That's why the critic I fear the most is myself, and I spend most of my writing time trying not to disappoint him. Now the result may be mediocre at best in the eyes of those with actual writing experience or talent, which is why I truly appreciate feedback (like all writers do obviously), but even if it's positive, I still won't publish a chapter unless I think I can't do any better. I might be taking this a little to seriously, but this story is the first I've ever written, and most likely the only I'm ever going to write (counting any possible sequels).

So to answer your question honestly, I'm not sure. I can tell you that I have finalised half (it's a big chapter), and I have half left to write, but, even though I've written the hard part, it should still can take me no less than a week, maybe two. Sorry for the wait Β

Well if that's the case, WHAT ARE YOU DOING READING THIS?! GO WRITE THAT STORY! NOWWWW!!!! I NEEED IT!Β
(just kidding)

Ahem,
Anyways, for being the only story you've written it is of an exceptional quality, and for a non-literary guy your writing is really fun to read! Srsly your story is so much fun to read, even I as a really slow reader could finish almost each chapter in a day or so xD

Two weeks? That's not so long to wait for! Thanks in advance

Thanks! 'Fun' is probably the best compliment I could ever receive considering my constant fear of being dull or repetitive . Back to work now! Your eagerness shall fuel my snail paced writing speed! Β

PS: Sorry, I might have gone overboard with the emoticons...

MonoFlax In reply to Eretsonoferet [2016-02-15 22:25:26 +0000 UTC]

Haha I've seen 'worse' xD

Your story doesn't really feel repetitive to me... although it could easily slip into that territory if you focus too much on the survival aspect, but you already told me a few times that the story will now quickly turn more exciting.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Eretsonoferet In reply to MonoFlax [2016-02-16 00:06:57 +0000 UTC]

Hi! I'll respond to both your messages here:

Β

You are not the first to warn me about focusing too much on the survival aspect, and I really value that input. I too would rather avoid boring readers with daily life, though I still need to develop Hiccup and Toothless' relationship before kickstarting the events that lead to act 3 (which is not the final act btw).

There's no more than... a number <= 4 (I'd rather not reveal the exact number ) of chapters left before the next major, life-altering event. This doesn't mean these chapters are about survival skills. A lot will be learnt, especially about Toothless' past. Each chapter in the story is necessary in some way. Some will obviously drive the plot, others will be more subtle about it, but I won't be writing filler. I just hope some chapters don't come across as such.

Now to answer your second message (which funnily enough is not completely unrelated to the ~4 upcoming chapters): I have to admit that I did indeed mention that there were no particular supernatural elements in my story (I assume you've read the info on my fanfiction.netΒ profile page), excludingΒ of course anything that is even vaguely related to dragons. This is important, because there could be some aspect of some ability (that I may or may not have mentioned in the level 2 spoiler info in my ff.net profile page), which might develop into something more than just what it seems at first. Aaaand I've said too much .

If you really want to know, I'll tell you in a private message (it's not a major spoiler, another reader has actually figured it out), but keep in mind that this little detail will play a role much much later in the story. I just want to point out that while it will be a minor deviation from canon in theory, in practice it should not change much. In the end, what I'm trying to say is, don't expect any magic spells, sorcery, prophecies or active gods .
