So after the polls people said design tut, here it is. Been working on it on and off in between commissions...Is this even helpful?!?! lsakjdf XD; It's so tl;dr - I could fill pages upon pages about this stuff. But I don't have enough time.But yesu.
Feel free to ask if you've any questions.
I'm sure there's tons of typos I just...I'm tired but I was even more tired of seeing this peeking out from behind my other canvases LOL;

I think the only downside to this "tutorial" of sorts is that quite a few of the example characters shown encourage people to put 278193456473814230 accessories and patterns on one character. I don't know about you, but those kinds of characters don't appeal to me quite as much anymore because it makes it sort of difficult to keep track of the character in question. A "good" design should be unique, yes, but also memorable, in my opinion. Other than that, though, this whole thing does make for a pretty good start in coming up with a design and keeping to a certain theme once you have one in mind.

This is true, though I wasn't really trying to encourage over accessorizing but perhaps I worded/presented it oddly. It's something I've been doing for years, so I guess the amount of "details" *coughgaudytastecough* isn't as apparent to me lol; -sobs- Thank you for pointing that out, the example I used is indeed a bit, er, "overburdened". I wholly agree that character design should be memorable- Mario's doing just fine with overalls and a red hat! XD
