Description This was actually a very interesting type of commission done for
for a tutorial from sketch to finished ink.

It was actually quite fun, and this is generally my progress when I go about doing this type of image right before I start the colouring stage!

could you help me?
You said when you make a mistake you use white gouache
well, i have deleter white ink [link] and the thing is it always kinda piles up on the inked mistake and it looks really rigid and it isn't smooth and it makes the mistake even more obvious! (plus it's slighty translucent) and I've tried gouache too but I just can't get it to fix my mistakes!
How do you do it? I even tried looking for a tutorial but no luck...
help VERY much appreciated

Hmm well most of my line art tends to get fixed up in photoshop (or any photo editing software) after so the more obvious mistakes I can fix digitally.

Otherwise I know what you mean, with the white paint (or gel paint sometimes) it's really thin and you can't really do it thickly or else it becomes hard to ink over or obvious.
I retake the part about acrylic, try some gesso (its really easy to ink over when dry. You could also try a white-out pen as well.

The really old school methods are, draw on thick bristol and you could actually scrape the ink off with an exacto.
Redraw the mistake part on another paper, and then glue it over your drawing.

does any of that help?

I have this long list of things I'm trying to improve about my art, and the first thing is inking traditionally. Thank you for this tutorial, I look forward to studying from it once I get pens that are thinner than 0.4. xDD
I have a question, though; After you fix it up in Photoshop, could you print and color it traditionally without it looking strange? Or would you have to color it digitally by then to make it look natural? Thanks again! γƒΎ(Β΄ο½₯Ο‰ο½₯ο½€)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psycho-kitty In reply to Hitaki318 [2012-04-11 17:54:51 +0000 UTC]

Hmm you know I've never actually tried to paint over it traditionally, I was actually going to attempt that with watercolours soon. I think it would look fine really, though you'd have to print on the right sort of paper for your medium! And thick paints might just cover the lines too.

If I was going to paint it traditionally I think I would just not bring it into photoshop (though I'd make a scan in case I mess up XD).

Let me know how it turns out!

canο»Ώ you make tutorial how to draw the difference between the male and female body and aslo draw the difference hair stlye like wavy, straight, and Curly in naruto stlye please?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psycho-kitty In reply to Tsuenica [2012-03-05 15:19:27 +0000 UTC]

Unfortunatly as you can see by my art, I draw my own style, not Naruto style. Not to be mean but no.
(Also for male female bodies, live models are the best way to learn.)

Well I learned something here today: Boob Crack! Seriously though, how in the hell do you draw the details in pen like that and not totally screw up? That would intimidate me big time, so I'd be stuck with pencils and then I'd have to take the extra steps with inking and erasing...it's a long process with too much room for error. I know you can't take shortcuts when it comes to art but I'll try anything to make the whole thing a little quicker.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psycho-kitty In reply to zombihandba [2012-02-18 16:38:02 +0000 UTC]

Honestly I'm suuuuper messy with pencil! And I draw really light, so for me this is the best way to get a clean lineart. Anyway with my OCD, I wouldn't have it any other way haha. Once you get used to it it's not too lengthy.

zombihandba In reply to psycho-kitty [2012-04-14 00:17:08 +0000 UTC]

I guess that's true. Now that I think about it my drawings look much better done in a way similar to yours, also.

Another way to make clean lineart is to set your scanner to B&W - it only picks up the black and/or really dark parts, and any other unwanted bits of black can easily be erased.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psycho-kitty In reply to VampiressBite [2010-08-28 09:03:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah though I have a really shit scanner so the B+W option doesn't pick up details as well as making the image greyscale afterwards, it's too harsh.

teamzoth [2010-02-05 12:55:49 +0000 UTC]

s you no longer separate the black and the white as two separate layers anymore?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

psycho-kitty In reply to teamzoth [2010-02-05 15:53:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh I never did that D:! It sort of ruins the softness of the lines, so I only do it if I have to add colours to the lines, otherwise I always just put it as a multiply layer

teamzoth In reply to psycho-kitty [2010-02-07 21:06:03 +0000 UTC]

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

tarahm In reply to psycho-kitty [2010-02-05 19:31:21 +0000 UTC]

Actually there's an easy way to separate the black from the white without ruining the softness. (Assuming you have Photoshop, anyway)

Just read through the first three pages of this tutorial which explains how. :9

(sorry for butting into this convo ;-; I had to share, cause I find it's really useful)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

psycho-kitty In reply to tarahm [2010-02-07 18:56:15 +0000 UTC]

Hehe so I just tried that technique as well, and the only problem I see with it is you being unable to make several different lineart colours.
I usually make an empty layer on top, with a layer mask of my lineart selections , that way I can put any sort of different colours over the black.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

tarahm In reply to psycho-kitty [2010-02-08 18:09:53 +0000 UTC]

Actually, you can do that with this technique too.. if I'm understanding correctly..? Like, when you do the selection of the grays, you can make a new layer and set a mask.. uhm, I'm not sure if that makes sense..

Or you can do what I do, and that's using this method up to the select>load selection>background grey ... I make a new layer and use the paintbucket tool to fill the new layer, and it's just lines.. then you can click the "lock transparent pixels" icon and colour however you please over the line art.

I hope that makes sense. If not, let me know and I'll make a mini visual tutorial. I'm so bad at explaining XDD
