Description Around 165 million years ago in mid Jurassic China, an adult Shunosaurus lii sauropod lays down on a beach bordering its usual forest home. Basking in the sunlight and shaded by coastal trees, the stocky herbivore puts its body against a large rock, which it uses as a scratching post on its belly and sides. Eventually, it becomes so relaxed it falls into a deep sleep.

Suddenly, a squeaky roar sound interrupts the Shunosaurus' rest. At first, it is presumed to be another plant eating dinosaur, posing little to no threat. But suddenly the sound is heard again, right in front of the sauropod's face. Whatever is making the noise has started to irritate the Shunosaurus, who opens its eyes to find the culprit. And unexpectedly, the creature responsible is sitting right in front of it.

It is a Sinraptor dongi - a metriacanthosaurid dinosaur, a theropod - a predator. For a brief moment, even the large sauropod is frightened, until it realizes that the carnivore is small - much smaller than usual. Usually, an adult Shunosaurus will be around 2.5 meters longer, and far far heavier, than a fully grown Sinraptor. But this one is just around two times the length of Shunosaurus' head. This one is a youngster, who has ventured into the open world, exploring a habitat it may one day dominate as an apex predator.
