"Wait for me, alright? I'll come back and we'll find somewhere safer, okay? I will come back," Damien told his younger brother before leaving. Nico waited for the day his brother would return, but it never came. Those walking corpses forced him to leave. He scavenged what ever seemed useful and could fit into his messenger bag, and he left. For a while he was on his own, setting traps near his little camp and killing any dead that came close.Β
In that time alone, he relived the events that led up to this. He was at home with his brother, Damien, his mother was at the market getting groceries for dinner, and he didn't have a father to remember. The brothers were in the living room just sitting and talking when the phone rang. He remembered Damien's reaction to the phone call from their mother. The pale face, wide eyes, shaky voice... it scared Nico to see his brother that way.Β Nico could barley hear his mother's rasping, pained voice as she sobbed apologies and farewells before the call hung up. They tried calling her again, but there was no answer. Something was wrong. Damien cautiously went to the window. "Nico, come here..." Damien ordered. He did as he was told and what he saw out the window shocked him. There were people attacking each other, biting and ripping apart limbs from bodies. They were grotesque in appearance with their rotting flesh and bloody forms. "Wh-what is that?! What's going on?!" Nico asked feeling panicked. "Come on, we have to get somewhere safe," his brother replied. They packed food, supplies, water, and a battery-powered radio before going upstairs to their mother's room to get the pistol and packages of bullets their mother kept locked in the dresser by her bed. While upstairs, the sound of pounding on the door and breaking glass shattered the tense silence. "We have to get out of here," Nico hissed under his breath. Damien loaded the gun and took a deep breath, "We are." BANG! BANG! BANG!
Gunshots snapped Nico out of thoughts and he jumped to his feet. He wasn't sure on what move to make, but decided to venture out of the "safe zone" that was his camp and scout out his surroundings. Gunshots meant survivors. And survivors could mean Damien...

Lilly hid her smile until she lifted her head to look up at him. " im sorry for making you worry." Lilly for the first time in almost a year felt like someone cared for her. His patting had made her feel much better. "I understand you did it And what you did may have just saved my life" she smiled. Now with the worse part done she would kill for a pain killer. She still clung to Nico when her eyes scanned to the back seat. "How good is whisky for a substitute pain killer?" She asked glancing back up at Nico.

Nico glanced at the back seat.
"I don't know but I think it would suffice. Just don't drink too much." He said.
"And don't move around too much. I don't want to have to sew you up again."
With slight strain, he reached into the back seat and grabbed the bottle.

Lilly had only drank once. A road clown about he age got her to drink a sip. But her dad had caught her with the bottle up and she got in big trouble. Now however was different, he father wasn't here and she wouldn't get in trouble. Well not unless she drunk too much and Nico got upset. Lilly took the bottle from him carefully an pulled the top from it. The smell alone made her just a tad dizzy she glanced to Nico an wiggled her way off his chest. She blushed a bit and turned the bottle up taking a quick long gulp. She pulled the bottle away an made a sour face at Nico. "It makes my tounge numb"

Nico laughed a little.
"Well it's whiskey. It's some pretty strong stuff." he said. The boy had never drank before but had learned a thing or two while traveling. He climbed back into the driver's seat and looked out the rear view mirror for the men. "I wonder what those guys were doing..." he muttered, Β mostly to himself.

It didn't take long before Lilly was feeling the burning fuzzy feeling in her tummy and chest. Her pain in her side blurred into a tingle and she just lay her head back looking at the clouds. Her head rolled over to look at Nico.
"To touch my things..they watched us go in there.." She grumbled angrily. Her words were not slurred but she spoke with a funny accent.
"They thought that we weren't going to put up a fight!" She exclaimed. She picked up the bottle and took another gulp and then extended it to Nico. "Hm! It makes you feel all numb" she giggled a bit. She wasn't drunk but you could say buzzed.

Nico smirked and took the bottle from her.
"That's enough for you. I don't want you to be drunk." He told her.
He put the car into gear and started driving towards the woods. There they could hide the car in case they ever needed to use it again and keep it from being found by the men. "I thought it was really creepy how the buff guy could smell you." He said with a shudder.

Lilly groaned at the bottle being taken away but she let it go. The cool shadows of the forest was nice.
"I thought for sure.." Her words came out slowly. "I was going to be raped..i feared for my innocence honestly." She droned on about "how could he smell me?" She leaned across to the drivers seat. Putting he chest and face to Nico. Extending her neck out as if he were to bite her like a vampire. "Do i Have a smell?..sniff me" she urged. Perhaps the man had weird dog nose smell. "What do i smell like?" She asked with a flushed buzzed expression.

Nico blushed.
"I would have never let them do that to..." he muttered.
He looked at her and at her neck then awkwardly leaned in and took a sniff.
"I-I don't smell anything..." he said and quickly drew away.

Lilly nodded.
"Okay good..i thought for sure i smelled like rainbows and roses." She laughed a bit. "Aw Nico your such a great friend!" Lilly exclaimed and leaned over to hug him round his neck. She rested there for a moment before pulling her legs across with her and she basically laid in his lap now. She had curled up half way in the passenger seat an half way in his lap. "I wont ever let ANYTHING happen to you." Her words were still slowly said but she meant it.

Nico's face continued to reddening slightly until even his ears were pink.
"I won't ever let anything happen to you either..." he replied then stepped on the brakes slowly. "Come here" he said softly and pulled the rest of her into his lap, being careful with her wound. He petted her hair then stepped on the gas and carried on driving. "You're funny when you're buzzed." He said to her and gave a light laugh.

Lilly was glad he allowed her to rest in his lap. It was comforting and it made her feel loved. "Funny?" She yelled but it was muffled from her head resting near his shoulder. "I sir am hella much fun" she said muffled again. "If i was not afraid of sounding stupid i would tell you that i like ur face" she giggled a bit an looked up to him. "Nico your face is red!" She exclaimed, then smiled. "Do i make you blush?" She teased.

"N-no..." Nico stammered, keeping his eyes on where he was driving.
He was lying, Β there was no doubt about it but he wasn't about to admit it.
"Anyway I never said you weren't fun. I think your lots of fun." he told her.
"Wait, you like my face?"

"I make your face red.." She said lifting a finger she poked at his cheek.
"It's okay.." Her words slurred a bit. "You can tell Lilly." She said and rested her head in the crook of his neck and shoulder. "Your face, yes. I like your face..its adorable." She said as she nuzzled into his neck. "Your sweet Nico." She said slowly.Β

Nico sighed.
"Why are you being so cute? You must've drove your boyfriend crazy..." he said.
He took a hand of the wheel and stroked her hair. He smiled, knowing that she was buzzed and under the effects of the alcohol and probably had no idea what she was talking about. He huffed and pouted. "Adorable? Sweet? Me? No, now I know you're drunk."

Lilly smiled and giggled a bit, her cheeks stained red with blush.
"Aw, no. Daddy never allowed boyfriends, they were a waste of time to my career he said." She gave a sigh and shifted a bit, she looked up at him from his shoulder. "No, no..your very sweet. You treat me like a person, and not some idiot just because I am a bit ditsy.." She said glancing down, but then back up again. Her words weren't as slurred anymore, her buzz was coming down. "And adorable yes, your face is very sweet looking and soft." She reached a hand up to stroke his warm cheek, it was soft and smooth.Β

Nico smiled softly as his face reddened more at her touch.
"I was kinda hoping for something more along the lines of handsome or something" he said jokingly. "But I guess adorable will have to do..."
He chuckled and had the car slow to a stop.
"I think this is good."

Lilly felt the car come to a stop, and she lifted her head a bit to look at him now. She pulled her hand away, and brought both of them to cup his face in her hands now. "Aw, more big words? Well I guess handsome does work." She said smiling her one eye narrowed slightly at the work of the alcohol. "You have such sexy features Nico." She said in a low tone her cheeks reddened a bit more as she gave a even wider smile, she let her hands drop from his face and she reached to grab his hands, she placed his palms of her face to make him cup her face. "Am I handsome Nico?" She asked with a wide eye.Β

Nico blushed and he smiled.
"Handsome is a word used for guys. The word for you is beautiful." He told her.Β

Lilly clung to his hands on her face and she adjusted herself so she was sitting directly in his lap. She looked him straight in his face.Β
"Beautiful..am I beautiful?" She asked in a soft whisper, she acted as if she was almost afraid of the answer she was going to get.Β

Nico nodded.
"Yeah I think you're beautiful."

Lilly smiled and leaned down to rest her head on his chest.Β
"Thanks Nico." She said happily closing her eyes for a second to relax. "The effect is wearing off." She stated. "My side is starting to hurt again." Her words came out even and normal toned now. The short buzz had run it's course and had now settled, she hid her face as the buzz wore off. She wasn't completely herself when she was in her daze. She was far more outgoing and silly but now she was shy, she was shy about the situation and the fact she had said such stupid things. "Uh, Nico." She said keeping her head low. "I'm sorry for acting weird." She said as she nuzzled farther into his chest, trying even harder to hid the fact she was flustered.Β

Nico chuckled.
"It's okay. I knew it was alcohol talking." He said then brought the whiskey out.
"If your side's hurting then you can have some more. I'll be watching how much you drink though."

Lilly kept her face hidden.
"A drunk woman's words is a sober woman's thoughts." She added as she lifted her red face, she looked at the bottle. She liked what the whisky did to her but not the after effects. She was a bit dizzy and she had a urge to just lay out in the sun.Β
"Will you drink with me?" She asked. "I do not want to be the only one acting silly." She said glancing at the bottle.Β

"Um...sure. Why not?" He raised the bottle to his lips and took a sip then handed it to her.

Lilly smiled a bit, she was happy he decided to drink with her as well. Lilly took the bottle and took another long gulp, hugging the bottle she laid her head back down onto his chest. "How well do you handle drinking?" She asked adjusting to hand him the bottle to see if he wanted another sip, two sips got her where she needed to be. Though she was afraid to take three she couldn't be too off guard.Β

Nico took the bottle from her but was hesitant to take another drink.
The whiskey was bitter and he didn't like the taste of it.
He was feeling a little dizzy.
"Well to be honest this is my first time so hopefully I don't get sick or anything" he answered.

Lilly put her hand to her mouth to giggle.
"It was my first time too, but it wasn't so bad after I got over the weird taste." She said clicking her tongue to taste the after taste.
"Can I ask you something Nico?" She looked at him with a questioning gaze.Β

Nico nodded, his cheeks flushed due to the effects of the whiskey.
"Ask away" he said in an almost sing-song tone.

Lilly looked at him.
"Before the outbreak and stuff, did you like have friends, and parties, and a girlfriend and stuff?" She asked with her head slightly tilted in question.Β

Nico nodded.Β
"Yeah I had lots of friends and went to a few parties. I had a few girlfriends but they didn't last very long and they caused drama and were kind of a hassle... I had soccer and school to worry about anyway." He told her.Β

Lilly smiled a bit.Β
"You sound like my dad." She told him with a giggle. "Boys are nothing but a bother, all they want is sex, and to get you pregnant." Β she mocked her father holding up a finger in the air, and shifting her voice to a deep mans voice. She let her finger drop and she rubbed at her face. "I liked a guy once, but he stayed with us for only a few weeks." She groaned. "I liked to draw, but I never had time, I never went to any parties...the circus was actually pretty much like a part every night I guess...minus music and booze." She said rambling.Β

Nico listened to her rambling and smiled.
"Guys aren't that bad. Some are but not all of 'em." He said.
"And the circus sounds more fun than any party I've gone to."

Lilly glanced to him with a dumb found look. "Well yes, I guess." She grinned. "You haven't tried to have your way with me so that is a point for the good guys!" She exclaimed then paused. "Well..I guess..but when all you know is circus and live and breath it..it gets sad." She said lowly. "I don't even know how to do basic things. I have never cooked, never drove a car, never had friends, or a best friend." She said looking to him with a wide eye.
"Thats where you come in." She said.Β

Nico put a hand to his mouth in thought.
"Well let's make a deal. Apart from our friendship, I can teach you basic things and you can teach me circus stuff."

Lilly eyed him.
"Hmm? Like cooking and stuff?!" She asked in a high pitched tone. Her eye raised open wide, and she grinned. She leaned down and gripped him in a tight hug and giggled. "Oh Nico! That sounds so wonderful." She said in a song like tone, and she rested her head on his shoulder again.Β

Nico smiled and hugged her.
"Good. I'm not that great at cooking but I can still teach the basics."

Lilly nuzzled into the hug, but first lifting her head up to give him a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Thanks for being so sweet to me."She said resting her head back down. "I wish I could of met you before the outbreak." She whispered.Β

Nico blushed once more but smiled sweetly at her.
"No problem. I wish I could have met before too." He said.
"How's your side?"
The whiskey hadn't messed him up as much as he thought. Then again he didn't drink that much.

Lilly thought about it.
"Hmm?.." She then glanced down and moved her cut costume out of the way. She moved the gauze down to take a peek, it was still stitched up and such. She then placed it back in place. "I can't feel it right now, and I haven't popped any stitches." She told him with a ditsy nod.Β
"I owe you one." She said,Β

Nico shook his head.
"Nah, it's alright. You don't have to owe me anything. I'm just glad I don't have to fix it." He said.

Lilly smiled and shook her head.
"You have saved me more times than I have you up to now." She said in almost a shaken voice, she burst into tears and pulled Nico into her breast clinging to him. "I am so grateful for you Nico!" She exclaimed in a sobbing manner.Β

"H-hey! I can't, y'know, breathe!" Nico exclaimed, squirming a bit in her embrace. "It's okay! Really it is!"
The sudden rush of the waterworks confused the boy. "Why are you even crying?! Come on, it's okay, silly." He wiped her tears away with his coat sleeves.

Lilly pulled him away from her chest as he wiped her tears.Β
"I don't know I am just emotional." She whimpered poking her lip out a bit,her tears on her right eye ran in small drips of blood while her left eye ran clear streams of tears. Something she had grown use too since the accident, she did not pay it much mind.
"I feel...loved" She whispered.Β

"Well... that's good" Nico mumbled, not sure exactly how to respond to her statement. I mean, of course it's a good thing, but to him she just kinda said it out of the blue. He took another drink of the whiskey before putting it in the cup holder. "It's good to feel loved. I mean, nobody shouldn't..." he said to her, leaning back in his seat.

Lilly adjusted herself on his lap again and laid her head back onto his chest.Β
"I love you Nico." She said quietly into his chest, she adjusted her head to stare up towards him with a slow blinking eye. "I like the sound and the feel of it." She whispered sweetly, almost to herself. Things were spinning a bit, and the world seemed really slow motioned. It made her smile almost mindlessly into the thin air above Nico's head. Staring at the trees and the sun light that beamed through the leaves.Β

Nico found himself nodding off and didn't quite catch what it was she had said. "Hmm..." he groaned as he sat up and took off his coat. He draped it over Lilly's shoulders then leaned back again. "If you don't mind, I'm going to take a nap... I feel really sleepy..." he muttered, his words slowing and he yawned. He pulled down on his torn and blood-stained t-shirt, and closed his eyes.

Lilly smiled as she nuzzled into his jacket, it was warm and it made her drowsy as well. She sunk into the scent and the softness until she herself was sleep in an out of a daze. The darkness soothed her, and for once she actually felt safe. Here sleeping on who could almost be called a stranger, but she trusted him. It was something about him, something that made her trust him so deeply. She could say she knew him somehow, some way maybe.Β
Lilly slept peacefully until something tickled her nose, she wiggled a bit restlessly and hid her nose. This time it pestered her ear, she giggled a bit and opened her eyes to see the orange clouds. Her side ached badly, and then eyes! She almost sprung up sitting up straight in Nico's lap she peered at a young boy a bit older than herself with dark black hair. She at first thought it was the men but it wasn't.Β
"Goodevening." He said with a sly grin, he had sharp k-9's and he sat in the back seat. "I thought for sure I was watching a porno for a second, until I got closer and saw you two napping out here." Lilly stared in shock, she mindlessly nudged Nico's shoulder.Β
"N..ni..ni.." She kept repeating and the guy gave a inner chuckle.Β

Nico groaned and rubbed his eyes before sitting up and seeing Lilly. "What's going on..." the boy droned sleepily. He then turned to see what she was looking at and saw the guy in the backseat. "Who are you and what do you want?" he asked, eyes narrowed at the guy warily.

The boy grinned flashing those sharp teeth again, which is honestly what frightened Lilly.
"I was hoping to find some supplies." He said resting his head in his hands. "I was quite surprised to find you two alive." He said in a creepy laugh, he lifted his head out his hands and stood up peering down at the two. "Though I am kinda glad, such a cutie shouldn't go to waste." He ran a finger under Lilly's chin an grinned. Lilly stood there staring still in light shock, her eye wide and her mouth partially open.Β
"Such a lucky young man to have stolen such a pretty young girl, now I ask of you two. What could you possible be doing in my forest with a load of guns with no ammo and a haul of alcohol."Β

Nico stared at the kid and laughed.
"First of all, we're just friends. And second, we stole this car from some guys who tried to attack us." he explained. "And you didn't answer my first question. Who are you?" He got out from under Lilly and stood up. He stared the other young man down, sizing him up and wondering how hard he must've hit his head to be going around claiming forests.
