Description
A family tree of the monsters from Ancient Greek mythology. There are a lot of variations to this particular tree; the placements here don't follow any one particular source, rather they were largely dictated by space and personal preference. One of the more interesting variants has Typhon as the son of Hera, who conceived the monster alone with the hope he would overthrow Zeus.

Thanks so much for this. In the beginning of April I have a state Latin test on mythology and this really helps!

Can I have you do MY family tree? You won't have to make hardly ANY changes, except perhaps the names! Great work, I really dig your style.

"Real versions"? None of them really existed, so I don't see how any depiction can be any more correct than another.

I wrote a book - In between myths is a short comedy/adventure novel about a guy who looks for hidden creatures like Sasquatch but finds a load of Greek mythology things check it out. Great pic too , best of luck to your sister! you should do pictures for the book. This is really good for research as im looking into echidnas family much better than dull wikipedia entries

This is really awesome. I have heard about the story of Typhon being Hera's son, and thought that it was pretty likely given all of the monster-conception involved in Greek mythology.

I've always loved Typhon and Echidna's twisted family. You've got to wonder about the genetics there!
Brilliantly inventive depictions of all the monsters.

Your work is gorgeous! Simply amazing!
(There is only a few mistakes in the genealogy, but I forgive you.)
Will you do others in the series?

I'd like to at least expand this tree a little (i.e. Medusa's children, monsters like Charybdis that were associated with the creatures here, a few more of Echidna & Typhon's offspring that I skipped).
There are loads of other creatures and characters I'd like to cover (the Fates in particular), but I most likely won't be doing more trees like this.

One source claims that Ladon was Echidna's brother, and Hesiod claims that many of Echidna's brood were fathered by her son Orthrus.
That, and Typhon as son of Hera was usually called "Typhoeus"

Then again anything Hesiod wrote can be taken with a grain of salt, he contradicted himself constantly in his genealogies often several times in the same work.

That's true.
It could have been that he was simply exaggerating the icky kinky incest themes the Gods and their relatives had.

Now the big question, WHY did you do this? Make a real alien version of these mythological figures and beasts?
