Story below goes with artwork and is written by me. Word count: 1130
The stallion stopped as he gazed at the damage before him. He had only just crested over the hill when the sight of last season’s devastating forest fire confronted his eyes. The forest below had once been a lush and green land full of life and energy; what laid before him now was silent and still. Trees stuck out of the ground like skeletons and there was no animal life to be seen. No birds chirped among the dead tree branches and no small animals rushed and scurried to-and-fro. This area was abandoned, and the Scion felt the cold and deserted land cry out for help. Soon the rainy season would start, and mudslides would destroy the landscape causing further damage. It would take many years before this lonely land would be able to support an abundant life again. So, without a second thought, he began his trek down to the barren land to assist as best he could.
Each step brought the stallion farther into the burnt forest. He inhaled deeply and let the smell of smoke cover his senses. The air was stale and bitter on his tongue. The ash beneath his hooves softly gave way to the chard earth below and he sent his magic into the ground seeking a response. At first all he felt was the death that was the top layer of earth; it took an extra push with his powers to get to the soil below. Little sparks of life resonating to his ability responded underneath him and he smiled to himself knowing what that meant.
Hope.
Most thought of a forest fire as something that only brought devastation and destruction, but he knew better. With each life taken by flame a new opportunity of growth could be created as well. The sparks that responded to his energy were seeds; new chances for this forest to recover and heal. Each seed had the potential to grow exponentially and become something life sustaining. As he walked past the seeds in the ground the Scion sent his magic to them encouraging them to grow. He could feel each root sprout and each leaf leave the safety of its hard pod to explore the world around. He turned the soil and earth as he walked so the ash could enrich and fertilize the substrate below.
The Scion did not notice the hours turn into days, and days into weeks as he worked with the forest. Each night he would rest and start back at his work early in the morning. One morning he awoke to find a small bird calling through the forest. It was strange, after working in silence for so long, to hear a noise that he himself didn’t create. Perhaps Gaia, the ancient Greek goddess Mother Earth, was sending a small sign – letting him know that she appreciated his care and restoration of her land.
It wasn’t much, but each additional day brought more vivacity and energy back. Soon the small critters started to find homes once again, filling the forest areas the Scion repaired. He couldn’t breathe life back into the dead trees, so he sent vines and more growth around their bases and remaining branches. This caused the deceased trees to have a strong base once more, reinforced with foliage that could grow from the tree’s nutrients, as it created new sanctuaries for the returning creatures. The Scion worked tirelessly, pouring his magic into the earth, to help as much of the land as possible. The stunning stallion pushed himself to the very limitations of his magic – often retracing his steps to ensure that his magic thoroughly coated an area. After all, even he wasn’t a Greek god, and his magic could only spread so far from his own body. But the Scion was determined to heal as much of the land as possible. Each plant he helped grow was another life force to help the forest recover.
Almost a full month after his repair had started the rains began, and the stallion’s breath caught in his throat, concerned that he had not been able to help the whole forest yet. The rain started lightly but increased its intensity quickly. Areas that the Scion had not reached to encourage growth in quickly become saturated and the earth began to shift. A devastating mudslide would be eminent if something wasn’t done. He knew his magical stores were close to depletion after all his work, but he burrowed down into himself calling what energy he had left. He closed his eyes and felt the magic within himself – it tried to stir in response to his need but it was so weak. The well of magic he once had now felt like an empty stomach and ached as he tried pulled more from it.
He opened his eyes as he heard the first tree crash over; as the mudslide began. Pure will and determination sent his magical reserves straight towards the oncoming disaster. He put his strength into a moving mound of earth to act as a wall against the mud. His wave of earth and the rampant mudslide crashed into each other with such a loud boom that he felt his bones shake from the reverberation. Exhaustion was biting at his mind but knew that he needed to hold out as long as possible. The Scion didn’t know if minutes or hours passed as he held his ground. Eventually the rain let up and the mudslide subsided. His wall, and magics, had saved a small area of forest and he felt so grateful for it. Slowly the barely conscious Scion laid down. His head fell onto a soft carpet of grass he had not long ago grown. He was too tired to find proper shelter, and let the sweet abyss of darkness beckon him to sleep.
The Scion startled awake to find leaves covering his body; some sort of primitive shelter had been constructed around him as he slept. Turning his head back and forth, as his stunning mane shook loose from the leaves, he looked for any sign of his generous caregivers. But they had disappeared without a trace – leaving nothing behind but his warm bedding. “Thank you,” he said quietly to anyone or anything that might hear him. Whoever, or whatever, had been kind enough to keep the Scion dry was probably grateful for the healing or the forest. The Scion stood shakily, still aware of his exertions, knowing that this forest was now strong enough to thrive once again. He did not know his next destination, but he knew that he was leaving this area more alive than when he arrived. He would someday return to it and spend some leisure time amongst the forest his magic once helped recover.

Now where do I begin with this one? Both the artwork and the accompanying story are beautifully done, I love how you portrayed that feeling of sorrow for being confronted with complete desolation, and the relief in finding that there was still hope combined with the tremendous effort to avoid an even more terrible fate.
You tied in both image and literature wonderfully with the lore of the breed and its Greek background

I love this!!!
I had even contemplated entering for this stallion (and the black one) myself... and I'm so glad I didn't! Because he is so gorgeous in your style. He looks utterly amazing - especially with that gorgeous fewspot appaloosa-patterned coat. The pose looks very regal and the foot feathering is just perfect.
But I have to say, I think my favorite part (of the art) is that insanely gorgeous mane and tail.
Like seriously, how long did that take you!?!?
The mosaic tiles look fabulous over your painted background... like a window into the forest that he wants to bring back to life.
And that accompanying story is epic! I already know you told me that it took you forever (b/t the art and literature) to do this entry - and I can tell that you were really inspired and put serious effort into it. It shows beautifully <3
I wish you the very best luck in this auction - and hope you get to bring this fantastic stallion home with you.
