Xing was born in Taiwan as the only child to his parents, who were both relatively successful in their business endeavors. He was able to live a comfortable life in Taiwan for many years. His outgoing personality and academic prowess gained him many friends in school. His parents were very supportive of his hobbies since he did well in his classes, so they bought him a piano when he was young so he could pursue his love for music. Ever since then, he began to hone his musical skills whenever he could, first learning how to play the piano then following up by making simple compositions once he was comfortable enough. He'd show off his pieces whenever he could and would be praised highly for them. (No one had the nerve to criticize a naive little boy, after all.)

He became increasingly comfortable with his lifestyle then. Xing had good grades, many friends to play with at school, and a talent for music that he could actually be proud of. Everything seemed to be going well for him until he was ten-years-old.

Seemingly out of nowhere, Xing's father suddenly announced that he was offered a job in Tokyo thanks to his connections with his friend there. The Ichinose family was also relatively prominent in the business world, and Xing's father saw it as a good opportunity to make his family's life even better. In less than half a year after the announcement, Xing felt as though he was stripped of everything. He could no longer use his native tongue. There were no familiar faces. He even had to leave behind his beloved piano to make the move.

It was hard for him to adjust to his new life. Xing went from being a star student to being a student that had to repeat a grade. The language barrier made it extremely difficult for him to learn properly in his classes, so he failed many of them. He also became significantly more quiet, afraid to mess up while speaking to others and making even more of a fool of himself. Even so, he was always rather good at math because the language barrier couldn't come between him and the numbers. It was because of this that he decided early in his life to pursue a job that relied on numbers more than anything. He had to completely drop his interest in music for a while though so that he could catch up on his academics.

While Xing's parents worked, he would go to the Ichinoses' home to do homework and also spend time with their son, Hotaru. The boy was rather loud, and Xing at first didn't take well to being bombarded with hard-to-understand words. But he soon warmed up to the kid, and soon they each helped each other learn each other's languages. Xing began to practice his Japanese and English with Hotaru, while he taught Hotaru some Chinese since he seemed interested. With Hotaru's help, he was able to return to being one of the top students again within the next few years. It was during this time of bonding that Xing began to share his love for music with Hotaru as well, and they both began to work on music together.

In his last year of elementary school, there was a group project in which students from various grades would be randomly assigned to plant a tree. Luckily for him, he was paired up with Hotaru, but there were now also many new people that were all younger than him. Xing remained rather quiet around them, choosing to observe rather than interact with them at first. After spending more time with them, however, they all grew to be rather close. Best friends, even. He found himself speaking up more and telling jokes to them to make them laugh. Even after he left them all in elementary school during his transition to middle school, he was able to retain his connection with them all due to Hotaru.

When Hotaru had to leave him for a long period of time, Xing switched to going to Tamato's house after school instead. It was then that he became closer to Tama and his family. His mother Ai was always patient with him and made him feel welcome despite his fear of the language barrier. Xing grew attached to her and even viewed her as another parent in some way. Even after Hotaru returned from Europe, he spent a lot of time with her since Hotaru was acting rather odd. Other than hanging out with him for recording sessions and school-related talks, Xing preferred to avoid Hotaru so that he could avoid the nagging feeling that his old friend was hiding something from him. It frustrated him.

Regardless, Xing continued on with school like normal, refusing to let his emotions get the best of him. It was important that he get into a good college, after all. That was the most important thing of all for teenagers like himself. He had known that since he was a little boy in Taiwan. In the end, Xing succeeded. Though he wasn't top of the class like he had hoped, he still made it into his first choice university and was ready to pursue a degree in business, following in his parents' footsteps.

The news of Ai's death hit him hard. Xing hadn't seen her in a while since he had been in university for a year. He felt a tinge of regret for not visiting her more often, but he at least made sure to attend her funeral service. When Tamato later approached him with the idea of starting up a cafe with the others, he was quick to agree to helping him since Ai was one of the few people that greatly impacted him during his childhood. He'd be lying if he said he didn't have his doubts about this idea actually going though, but if he couldn't be there for her during her final days, he'd at least carry out her legacy by helping her dream to become reality.
