Hello! In the spirit of CRITMAS (no typo!) me and my mates are making the rounds writing critique for one and all. I hope you don't mind me sharing my thoughts on this piece with you here today!

Firs tthings first, I very much like the yellow light and feeling of immensity in this picture: the sheer mountain face looks impossible to conquer, but lo and behold there is a lone eagle soaring, heading straight towards the summit. The barren landscape adds to the emotion of being reduced to the battle of will and the extent of one's imagination: can we imagine ourselves in this place, taking on this impossible mountain?

But this wouldn't be a real critique if I didn't have a word of criticism for you as well. What doesn't really work for me is the dark edges: I use those, myself from time to time but I think it's a bit too much in this particular instance, maybe because the heavenly light feels so murked because of it. It doesn't help that there appears to be some banding going on, but I think that might be due to dA sometimes displaying art at reduced quality for some reason.

Overall though, a splendid and immersive image. Thank you for sharing! I hope you didn't mind my having a go at it.
May 2020 see you craft many more just like it, and then some.

Hi Ed,    

I personally  feel you have done a wonderful job of projecting the true natural atmosphere of a mountain landscape in this  image.

It is in the high mountains and it looks like there is snow on the ground.

That would make the air and the lighting coming thru the clouds have a misty effect because of cold and dampness.

I think the way you have done this gives it a very ethereal  feel that is actually very realistic and the way it would look in real life.

I also feel the contrast between the largest mountain on the right in the fore ground and use of atmospheric perspective in the middle ground projects just how large and majestic this mountain is.  It brings the mountain up close and makes the viewer feel like they are really standing overlooking this scene.

The eagle placed just to the left of what would be the  the center top portion  of the image    off sets the weight of the  large mountain and give the composition balance.  It also adds visual appeal and completes the theme of your title.
