The only down side is how they handled Gil... what could have been. There are hints, but ultimately they officially took it out. I still took him in to the final fight, I like to pretend with who he should have been. Won't say much more for potential end game spoilers, but still.... what could have been.

Serge is definitely not Magus. Won't spoil too much, but there is plenty of evidence Serge is native to the current time (1020 AD). His biological parents exist within this time, and he lacks the magical aptitude that young Janus of Zeal.
Additionally, we know the child Janos ended up in 600 AD and grew up into Magus in that era. Serge is younger than the adult Magus that traveled with Crono and the others, so it doesn't fit that he would end up in 1020 AD as a teenager. Magus had no potential to time travel himself until after meeting Crono. All of his previous time jumps were a result of encounters with Lavos.

Cross has much to offer me on my actual age, it's more dreamy than Trigger..

Over all I think chrono cross was a better game in terms of story flow but chrono trigger has a special place in my heart as like the first rpg I ever played, it's second only to my beloved final Fantasy games I kinda wish they'd redo it with updated graphics and stuff

Man, Chrono Cross was such an epic game. And it's truly one of the PSX's most overlooked jewels (along with Koudelka and Vagrant Story). Also, if you didn't cry on that part at Lucca's House, then you simply do not possess a soul (or you didn't play Chrono Trigger...), the music alone could've made you cry.
